any of you guys who are experts in this magnificent rifle, the ak47? i saw these 2 ak variants namely the CASAR ak47 and the SIA AKM200 ak47, which are both relatively cheap. i was wondering if any of you guys were able to use one of these. Any info? recoil? reliability? etc.. as compared to the WASR, century arms AK, etc..? thanks.

None of those companies ship their firearms here. The AK variants I've handled in the Philippines have been by the following manufacturers/countries:

    China - Norinco and Polytech
    Russian - Original Kalashnikovs
    Polish - Tantal
    Czech - Zastava
    Bulgaria
    Egypt

Of all these AK's I've handled, the Tantal seems to have the best fit and finish, followed by the Bulgarian one. For some reason though the Chinese AK's I've fired seemed to outshoot their European counterparts.

I saw at least one Hungarian AMD. Very loud.

But best of all, the AKs available here are real assault rifles, that is, selective-fire.

We don't get parts kits here. What we get the whole shebang. Full auto, matching parts from the factory baby.

Twin Pines had them, Chinese ones (Type 56) with the folding bayonet, both fixed and folding stocks. Plus some pop out at one time or another in the Buy and Sell thread. Problem is that, unlike there, 7.62x39 is not cheap.

I even saw a bank armored truck guard with an AK.

I'd love to have one, just as I would love to get a Chinese Makarov in .380, but priorities first, that is, my AR.

Do you have a place that allows you to fire your new toy, or will you be just as miserable as me? Oh I can't wait for June. Hope my old buddies at Kamagong will have another rifle shoot.

The guys in the States are very lucky. They have a choice of AKs in many calibers, including 5.45x39 (I like the Tantal). I was able to get Guns and Ammo's The Book of the AK-47, which made me want an AK more.

Go for it. Ak's are the best. Im thinkin of getting one too. I have the AK-like vz58 made by czechpoint usa. It is a lot more accurate than the standard AK but its design is based more on the german sturmgewher 44 and its got a milled receiver as compared to the stamped parts of the AK 47. But still, i'd still want to get the original AK47. i just love ak's man.

yeah the AK rocks. I sold my Ak in 5.56 but I got me a SKS. Stripper clip loading is cool. No magazines to bother with. I like the VZ58. I like the fact that it can be reloaded using both detachable magazine or with stripper clips with the magazine attached. Like the FAL and M14. I will get another AK in 7.62 after the gunban to complement my SKS

Chinese Type 56, just picked it up yesterday from twinpines.

Nothing fancy, utilitarian fit, finish, and furniture, 100% AK-47.

Altoids tin is handy for keeping the tools.
