It's probably the most boring job on an airplane.

The marshal will be called every name in the book, but the reality probably is that her mind was temporarily on something else, something that distracted her, and she screwed up. It's the same human failing that results in NDs. Delta will get lots of grief since airlines are prime targets this month.

She was a new hire, I wonder if Obama had any kind of affirmative action preferences or any female hiring goals? Was diversity involved?
We aren't likely to find out details.

Most NDs do not have the potential to result in the deaths of 400-600 people at one time.

Sheet happens, but I would have thought that this actual real world scenario should have been covered in training on how to ensure this does not happen?

And call me politically incorrect, but I would assume an Air Marshal has a higher chance of being involved in a physical alteration in the performance of her job than a "normal" police person, per incident (just my opinion, or is it fact?). So if my theory is correct, would/should not the requirements for an Air Marshal be a little higher for physical attributes, thus reducing the probability of a woman doing that job (well Rhonda Rousey and other MMA fighters excepted of course)? Now PC police, calm down, think rationally and take a breath.

Given how small the heads are on planes, I don't see how you could forget a paper clip in there.

Obviously only those with relevant air marshall experience should be commenting.

Let me ask this then. You are on plane, use bathroom. You find a loaded gun. "WHAT DO YOU DO?"
Do you figure Air Marshell, other legal person forgot? Hid by maint for hijacker? Normal miss by TSA of crazy person?

Do you TAKE the gun? Leave it and lock bathroom as you report it to flight attendants?? Etc

What kind of gun is it?

That should be an automatic dismissal.

That happened about a year ago in NC, the agent was eating in a restaurant and used the rest room. The pistol either fell out of the holster or was left somewhere in the stall. A child found it and told her mother/the staff about it. The agent had left the restaurant before she realized the pistol was not where it should be. She returned to the restaurant and they returned her pistol to her. All ended well for everyone - except possibly the agent, never did hear what happened to her. Similar circumstances, except a restaurant will not fall out of the sky if the wrong person finds the weapon and stuff goes sideways!

This is a billion dollar program annually? What a huge waste of taxpayer money.

Dismissal will be the end result. I'd say this was an unforgivable sin for an Air Marshal.
