Yes, perfection at last! Sometimes the past holds the answers we seek...my new-to-me 2nd Gen 19.
Made in 1995...grip feels better...looks cleaner without the rail...it's renewed my love of Glock! Ah, simplicity!
How I wish Glock would offer all of their models for current sale, people would be so much happier.
(Glock, are ya listening? Can you hear me now? It's a great idea!)

I've read various answers, but does anyone definitively know what this means?

I have one born in 1996, my first Glock. I bought it new, and love it.

The perfect carry gun! I have an older Gen.2 that I paid $300 for. It's my everyday beater carry gun and I trust it with my life and protecting my family. I use my other Gen. 4's for work and range time. You can't have enough 19's!

I couldn't agree more. Finger grooves, and light rails......no thanks.

Is it common to find the older gen 2's with just a 3 letter serial number?

Nope, just put a piece of colored posterboard underneath and balanced the gun on a small 'hotel shampoo' bottle, to raise it up and get rid of the shadows. Took the pic next to a big window, using natural light. Angled the camera so you don't see the shampoo bottle underneath.
