I read that some shotguns have to be "altered to accomodate" these new minishells. I have an 870 that is SBR'd for home defense, and I'd like to shoot mini's through it.

Does anyone know what specifically has to be "altered to accomodate" these shells? I'm trying to determine what it'll cost to get this done.

    thanks,

I have a Mossberg and how the lifter is designed, it leaves a large enough opening for the mini shells to tumble and get stuck in it. They sell an adapter for the Mossbergs that basically fills this gap.

You may not need any kind of modifications to your 870 because the lifter is bigger than the Mossberg, thus filling the gap that I described.

Google a Mossberg 500 shell lifter and you'll see what I mean.

The minis run 100% in my FN P12 and Rem 870 Express. The Nova, BPS, Mossberg...nope.

It may be a moot point. Aquila mini shells are a seasonal production. I have been waiting more than a season to stock up on some.

My sister in law is gun function limited. She has a 410 single shot. I lent them Mossberg O/U tactical and a bunch of mini shells. She loved it.

I found a really nice double barrel to cut down for her. The problem I can't find reasonable priced mini shells. Just checked Ammo Seek and struck out again. Might have to go to 2" shell and reduced recoil ammo.

FWIW the Winchester 1200/1300 pump shotgun does handle mini shells.

Cabela's has the Herters mini-buck in stock. 2 1/4" shells.

I've been hot to try the Aguila minishell lately. On the Mossberg forum, there is a thread on shooting them with the opsol adaptor installed. Was reliable in that thread.
That #1/#4 buck load would probably do fine for HD, as would that short slug.
The Herter loads are longer, so you don't gain as much capacity.

I have shot about 250 of the bird, about 100 each of the buck and slugs. Never had a bad one.

We use them in nef singles/s-s,I don't think I'd trust them in a pump/semi.'08.

Just got an OPSol and tried it out Thursday.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01F5REBUM/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Put it in a Mossberg 500 with rifled barrel. Ten shots of Aguila Mini Slugs at 25 yards with a 4Xscope, LOUSY group, minimal recoil, low noise, two dented primers that later fired in a Remington 870.

Feeding 100% with the OPSol, forgot to take it out and loaded the magazine with 2 3/4 inchers and created a nice jam.

Brother-in-law likes the Herter's MiniBuck, 6 pellets of 00, recoil much reduced from regular ammo, one extra round in his Mossberg 500 magazine.

I never had any kind of luck with the short Aguilas, that's why I still had some in the ammo box.

Oh yeah, I've NEVER been able to get any decent slug groups with that set-up, shooting more than a dozen different slugs: Foster, sabots, Lee or Lyman.

I would like to see some ballistic info on the slugs.

I saw a Gun Blast video on YouTube of him shooting the new Mossberg Shockwave. In the video he shows an aftermarket "spacer" that wedges into the loading area that aides in the loading of the mini shells. A $15 part, no tools and not permanent.

I bought one of those spacers and took it to the range today. I was teaching a concealed handgun class and shot them thru my mossberg 500. I brought the clip but didn't have time to use it. I shot 6 mini's through it au naturale with no problems at all! I didn't have time to shoot more but will get to it next time when i can put it through its paces.

I bought that exact part and took my Mossberg 500 to the range to test the Aguila mini's. I thought I'd run 10 or so thru it without the part to see what would improve......and it ran perfectly! Never even put in the part. I'll try it again next range session. But if it ain't broke....

Anyone know of a similar part for Remington 870's?

Never had any feed issues in my 870s with them.

I haven't ran many rounds of anything through my KSG, but the mini shells seem to work better than 2.75" shells. Wish they were cheaper and more plentiful.
