OK, the question is, at what age did you decide to get your CCW? I know in some states (like Vermont for example) it's not required, or not available in your state, but for the one's that it applies to, what age where you when you decided to get it.

I got mine last year (27 years old) when I found out my wife was having our first child.

I got mine when I was 30. I had just married and figured I have to defend my family, if ever the need to arises.

    I was 21.

I didn't know you could get licensed at the age of 18 in IN, though, or I may have done so sooner.

You can't buy a hand gun until you're 21, so this is wrong.

    No, you are wrong.

    1. You can buy a handgun at the age of 18 in many states. You just have to buy it from another individual, have it gifted, etc. You cannot purchase one from a federally licensed firearms dealer (FFL). So while you cannot buy it from a gun store you most certainly can buy it elsewhere. Just go to a gun show and buy from a random person who is selling, that is the simplest way

    2. You can legally carry a handgun openly or concealed with a License To Carry Handgun (LTCH) in the state of Indiana, which is 'shall issue' with a minimum age of 18.

Of these things I am 100.00% certain and there is absolutely no question. I suggest double checking your facts next time. ;)

OK, I concede that I may be wrong. I find it somewhat illogical that you can't buy a handgun at 18 but can carry one concealed. I'm not trying to be a dork here, but I was under the clear impression that possession of a handgun by a minor (under 21) is a no-no.

You can buy one at the age of 18. At least, in many states. Just not from a federal dealer.

Some individual states may have such a law, but the ones I know of do not and the federal government does not, either. It is a common misconception.

I carried concealed AOW's and SBR's long before Texas issued CHL's. My age was not a factor.

Texas issues CHL's to 18 year old military members or veterans.
