The bodies of a Confederate general and his wife will be removed from a Memphis park after a lawsuit fighting the relocation of the graves was settled out of court. A statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest was removed from the Memphis park in 2017, which is when the most recent battle over the statuary and remains began. His family and the Sons of Confederate Veterans dropped a lawsuit against the city and Memphis Greenspace, the park’s owner, on May 11. “He would say that Memphis is not the same as when he lived here. And rather than have all the turmoil, he would rather move,” Lee Millar, a spokesman for the plaintiffs, said, according to an article on the Fox13 website. The new location for the graves and statue has not been confirmed, but is expected to be open to the public at a later date. “History buffs and people from all over the world will be able to visit the new Forrest Park and be able to learn and see the statue and see the graves,” Millar said, according to an article on the News3 website.

Memphis...every time I"m there, I just think, it's the worst place I've ever been. Surely much better today than 200 years ago, now that all the evil white Confederates are gone and the blacks can govern themselves...

If he saw that ****hole today, he'd probably dig his way out and walk away anyhow. I imagine they'd be outraged if somebody mentioned that they've done him a favor by moving him to a better place and that now the people who would be interested in seeing his grave will be more likely to do it.

Memphis used to have a great gentleman's club...platinum + I believe it was called. Such an eye opener for an 18 year old man from the north woods it was. Pretty sure I fell in love there ;)

Someday Washington and Jefferson will be unpersoned and it'll be a statue of President Zero gazing at the reflecting pool.

Not at all unlikely, we've already seen calls for tearing down Jefferson monuments.

Another meaningless gesture, that benefits nobody, and is a waste of money.
Something the younger generation does well.

Also the finest cavalry officer of the war. I'm sure his tactics are studied at West Point.. perhaps we should burn all of those books too..
