Glock 19 Gen 4 – 03 RSA.

After logging 740 trouble-free rounds from a mix of ammo to include 124 gr Fiochi, 147 grain subsonic reloads, 115 PMC, 124 gr NATO and 115 Black Hills +P JHP as well as 8 different shooters including petite females, the G19 acted up.

In 56 rounds, I had a couple forehead strikes from ejection and 4 stovepipes. 3 were facing backwards and 1 was your typical stovepipe. I was quite shocked and chagrined at its performance.

The 56 rounds included 28 115+P JHP Black Hills and 28 124 Gr Fiochi with an equal number of stovepipes each. It was also cleaned and lubed from the last range session.

While it was accurate, the reliability did not meet my standard. As a result I found got a good deal in a trade towards a NIB G17L.

Sure, I could have sent it to Glock and have the ejector changed and RSA swapped...but then it would always leave me in doubt. One would think that after the first 500 rounds with no issues and a variety of loads/shooters, it was good to go.

Going fwd – only Gen3 for me until there are no more issues with the Gen 4s.

I am disappointed as it had such great promise and my wife did like the fit.

I am excited about the G17L – have always wanted one ....

If I had a Gen. 4, I'd always have doubts about its reliability. I really don't see how any Gen 4 owner wouldn't - especially after several people have had exactly the same experience you had (reliable for a few hundred rounds, then numerous malfunctions.)

I don't think the parts in new Glocks are made for the long haul.

For years, Glock has been making guns for those of us that shoot a lot. I call them "Long Haul Glocks".

However, 9 out of 10 buyers shoot 1 magazine of ammo then put the gun away, and they complained they were being forced to pay for too much perfection.
Also, those "Obsessive Upgrader types" that buy a perfectly good pistol then want to change everything on it, influenced Glock's decision.

So now Glock is making "Short Haul Glocks" just for those folks.

What the "Short Haulers" didn't realize was Glock would raise prices, not lower prices on these, I don't want to say, "cheapened" guns so I will call them. "Less Then Committed Glocks".

It will take a while for these less than committed guns to filter into the hands of the Short Haulers and Obsessive Upgraders, then life here on the Isle of Gaston will go back to normal - boring perfection.

So, put it away, or sell it or trade it for a Long Haul model. Remember to tell the dealer next time, how many times you plan to fire the pistol.

We are really lucky that Glock makes guns for all of us.
Some companies, like Taursus, only makes Short Haul guns! :animlol:

At qualification the other day both of the malfunctioning guns were Gen3 G19's.

The Gen4's ran fine.

I would have just gotten your gun fixed. There are any number of things that could have happened and could happen to your new gun. A chipped extractor comes to mind.

No matter what gun you buy, every round you put through it puts you that much closer to your first/next malfunction or parts breakage.
