I was wondering, is it possible to delete posts in a thread that are offensive or in other way violate the forum's rules instead of locking the whole thread? There are some threads that are reasonable but than someone makes a stupid remark and the thread gets lock. It just doesnt seem like the best way to cope with the problem.

Yea, its possible, but each forum has its own way and rules for dealing with such threads. The way this forum does it prevents any further conversation on the topic (unless someone just doesn't know when to give up and makes a new thread cuz they get pissed about an old one getting closed, further irritating the staff on the forum)

yeah, but some people don't get the message, and just keep responding to the deleted post.

Most of the times that a thread is locked the conversation has already deteriorated into oblivion. We are sometimes able to delete an impoverished post in a thread, but many times there are so many inferences and quotes to a waylayed response, that deleting more than one post makes the thread unreadable and incoherent anyway. It's just easier to lock it down.

    Hope that helps.
