In another thread, the topic of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms came up. I am curious how these patients presented in other people's experience. Of the pts. that you know were AAAs what S/S did you find? I'll start. Of the approx. 10 calls where AAAs were later diagnosed in the hospital...

Hypotension or rapidly dropping pressure- 9
    ABD PN- 7
    Urge to deficate- 6
    "Tearing sensation"- 6
    N/V- 5
    Rigid ABD- 3
    ALOC/ CVA-like symptoms- 3
    Pulsating masses- 2
    Hemiparesis- 1

Of course this isn't even close to scientific, and certainly omits several DOAs that wern't followed up on, but I was just wondering what y'all experienced.

The three that I had were along these lines. Tearing chest/abdominal pain, diaphoresis, nausea, no vomiting, hypertensive (probably from freakin out), syncope, expressing impending doom (and I thought that was a joke from class...). Never felt a pulsating mass, but have heard that these aren't too common, and didn't want to go find out. All of mine have had previous hx or repair or family hx.

3 in 22 years - tearing sensation, hypotension and syncope...usually in that order.
