Part 4 of my essay on Romanian socialism based on my own life experience

    https://www.scribd.com/document/403248067/A-Wonderful-Socialist-Life-Part-4

45 years of Soviet style conscription, political indoctrination of troops, abuses, forced unpaid labor, continuous food, training ammunition, heating and fuel shortages in a rag-tag demoralized army led not by competent professional military leaders, but by all-powerful political komissars vested by the Communist Party.

I hear theres good hunting in Romania. Pity if it isn't being utilized. Chamois, Bear, Stag, boar, roe deer, any moose?

I was in Bulgaria once for a day in the '70s. The capitol, I forget the name. I was there for a hook up with another airline, I know it sounds crazy but i walked around the airport for awhile.

Biggest craphole Ive ever seen. I'm talking cardboard shoes and breadlines. Every single socialist state is/was a craphole, I'm warning everyone. When you take away the incentive to work an economy crumbles. Govt. is the most incompetent institution there is economy-wise.

I can't believe a whacko like Bernie is even in this thing. He's making promises that will never be delivered and it will cause a crash in our economy. Our military will be eviscerated.

Not just the military, the economy and people’s investments, home values, manufacturing, everything.
Government has never been able to administer a program efficiently, yet these people seem to ignore that fact.

I am close to someone who was born and lived under Romanian dictatorship for the first 30 years of their life. This person says we are now turning to Communism just as they remember it. Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it. Ain't that the truth!

There is excellent hunting if you are a wealthy foreigner or a connected local. Hunting still has a bad name among Romanians because Ceausescu was considering himself a great hunter and they associate hunting with excess and cruelty. While people were starving, pictures were circulating with him posing with perfectly aligned rows of dozens of slaughtered Russian boars, deer and bear he was shooting all in a single day. It was slaughter, not hunting. He was sitting in a comfortable in a heated observation tower and had dozens of people usually forestry agents with dogs routing out the game and pushing it toward him.
As for cardboard shoes, I have to confess I never wore those. I had a connection at a shoe factory outlet store. The factory was making those cardboard and faux leather for the domestic market, and real leather shoes for export to the West, mainly producing for Aldo which was an Italian brand. My connection always had a pair or two of those nice "Italian" shoes (arrived from the factory in the wrong box that was supposed to containing cardboard shoes) put aside in the back of the store for me. Of course, I always had a pack of American cigarettes or German vacuumed coffee to reward her.
