I think about him saying that every time I watch the "news". Prescient.
One guy I really miss. Wisdom on display always.
Seems absolutely prophetic. Until you it was already happening when he spoke those words. But it is as true today as it was then.
We don't seem to need his help.
(the devil's... not Mr. Harvey's)
It's sad today's society has nobody (that I can think of) to speak such wisdom. He didn't tell you. He got you to consider what he was saying.
Some few of us can understand we are and where we will be with this kind of clarity. He was spot on with this one. I always liked listening to Paul Harvey.
While Paul Harvey was definitely prescient, the "If I were The Devil" talk was updated by him many times along the way. The one in the OP, while carrying the first 1965 date, was probably more likely one of his updates, closer to 1990 than 1965.
So now you know the rest of the story...
I heard that on the radio recently.
Back n the 70's when I was apolitical and knew very little about most things, I'd sit in my car during lunch at work and listen to him every day on the ABC network (I think it was).
He was truly an American Treasure.
Good day....! I miss him.
Prescient - wise man - could see the future because he knew the past.
I never thought much of him as being somewhat extraordinary.... I'm sure HE thought he was.
I feel he was a shill and a hamster in the way of Phineas T. Barnum of "Jumbo" fame.
That truly is a good piece and I did enjoy his stories.
What I remember is that he was all gung ho patriot until his son moved to Canada to avoid the draft and then his attitude turned 180. I lost all interest after that. Kinda like when we found out Rush was a pill popping hypocrite.
