I hear this is going to be HBO's next big series. Pretty exciting.

For those who've never heard of A Song of Ice and Fire, it's a multi-book medieval fantasy series by George RR Martin. Kind of like Lord of the Rings, but grittier. And with characters that are actually interesting. And without the gayness.

Im pretty snobby about potboilers and paperback, and generally the whole fantasty bit, but after hearing this was being turn into TV and upon the recommendation of a friend, I started reading these book. They're a lot of fun and addicting. Starting the 3rd one currently.

Any basement dwellers on GT into these books?

Never heard of it. But sounds interesting. When HBO does a good job, they do a REALLY good job.

Isnt this the series that has the "crows" that defend the northern border of the Kingdom? If so its an excellent series. I've been reading them as they came out, but must have forgotten the series with everything else I've been reading lately.

Hopefully it wont be as bad as the "Sword of Truth" series was.

    Yeah that's the one, Lonewolf.

It's got intrigue, war, rape, dragons, a dwarf, and incest. The whole package. Friend swears its the best series the genre has ever produced and I can believe it.

I dunno about the "best series". But it ranks right up there. I'm gonna have to go to the bookstore and see if I missed any, I think the last one I remember reading was "A Feast For Crows".

I dig the books but I don't know if HBO is gonna be able to do the book justice. Not because of budget issue but of a cultural/social issue. Remember that the dwarf of Lannister was married to one of the princesses who just barely turned 12.

And there should be one more book to come out: A Dance of Dragons.
