I wouldn't hesitate to shoot +P in that. The heavy barreled K-frames have shot piles of them. The old FBI load was +P.

No sense spending extra on +p ammo for practice. Use the +p for defense if the gun is going to be your house gun. I shoot a lot of 38 special semi wadcutter bullets through my revolvers for fun and plinking.

To those who recommend I get wood grips. Which wood grips would you get?

Yours has adjustable rear sights. I thought the model 64 only had fixed rear sights?

And with a Tyler T-grip adaptor it would be perfect. No need for ugly rubber grips on a K-frame 38.

As far as Plus+P, it's the same k-frame and same diameter cylinder and is made of the same steel as the model 65 with a longer cylinder chambered in 357 Magnum.

Nice find. Enjoy it, +p shouldn't be a problem for the gun.

Unless I could find a set of original factory round butt magna service grips, I'd order a set of Altamont SKR-CP01-M03 S&W K/L Round Classic Panel Bonded Ivory with S&W Silver Medallion. then get a Tyler T-grip adaptor.

White grips on a stainless gun? Is that a good look?

It'll shoot them, but "+p" cartridges will accelerate wear and tear. I probably would fire a few now and then, but not every time.

Yes. It's a beautiful look, like ivory grips on a nickeled gun.

I bought one in 1982. Still have it. +P wont hurt it at all.

It is the perfect size for a 38 Special, IMHO.
