Well.....if we're talking a weed eater then it makes perfect sense. You want access to parts, right? A paper weight on the other hand, it wouldn't bother me. I just don't like "very unique!" as that's impossible.

    ... only if it's mentioned on a cable-TV commercial.

Those reek of buzz words used by people who don't know what the hell they actually have or of someone trying to get over on you.

Smith & Wesson could discontinue the K-frame tomorrow and gun shops all over the land would be filled with opportunists calling them 'rare' because "Smith & Western don't make 'em no more!"

Rare does not mean valuable or desireable.

I call it the "rib rule", which states that if you go to a restaurant and the menu has an entire paragraph gushing about how great the ribs there are, how many awards they have won, and quotes from the local papers asserting the sheer fantasticness of their ribs, then they are junk and should be avoided.

If, on the other hand, the menu merely says "ribs, $10", they are pretty much guaranteed to be excellent.

The same rule applies in other areas, such as sale listings, and selecting service professionals- if their 'credentials' are pushed too hard, watch out.

Any mechanic who boasts that he is ASE certified, is already fired in my book. Not that ASE certification is necessarily a bad thing, it is just not the only thing.

    Your mileage will indeed vary.
