Welcome to the Through The Lens Club. No matter what it has to do with optics or camera/photography stuff, this is the place.

    Two rules from the start:

    (1) Please don't attach images to your posts; we'll clobber Eric's disk space and bandwidth in a heartbeat. Link to URLs instead.

    (2) If you're posting images of your toys, please consider the term 'gun porn' verboten. Call them gratuitous gun pictures or something else :)

Update about posting images in here.

I talked to Eric and Sidearmor about outright disabling the attachment feature in here. Eric is of the opinion that we unless we get completely carried away, we'll not have a big impact on resource usage. Therfore, the ability to attach images remains (the software imposes a max size on attached files). However, we would still prefer that you link to externally hosted images where possible.

Hm. This will lead to confusion, and soon we will have tons of 2MB attached images that no one crops or resizes because they cannot be bothered. I really thought the original rule of no attachments was a good one. After all, if someone is serious about photography as a hobby, getting own storage space on the web is the least they can do.

But, this is Eric's server, and he makes the rules.

One small problem with linked photos is after a while folks change their personal web site (remove the photo, change ISPs, etc.) and the link no longer works.

I have run into this a few times when I searched for something and then tried to pull up a photo in an old post.
