So, right after I got my Heinie Straight Eight night sights for my G29, I saw a GT member's two G19s that had AmeriGlo Hack sights. I REALLY liked his front sight. It was a regular tritium sight, but had an orange SQUARE on it. It looked awesome for quick acquisition. However, I really like my Heinies. They have the best sight picture I've seen, and night sighting and acquisition is perfect, but I wanted something that would give me faster sight acquisition in daylight since this is my carry gun.

So, I have been looking at a bunch of paints and coatings, and eventually just took some acrylic paint I had at home and painted the front sight. Initially, I painted the whole sight, but didn't really like it. It wasn't too visible against white targets. After some experimentation, I decided to paint an orange stripe down the center, and leave all the edges black. That gives me good contrast against almost any target, while still giving me the bright orange front sight for fast acquisition. Luckily, it's water-based paint, so it will wash right off if I don't like it after shooting it. Hopefully, the ridges will keep it on the sight well. Here are the results.

I have old eyes ( goes with the rest of me ) and use fishing lure paint on most of my front sights. I use a tooth pick to apply the paint and put a base layer of white paint down and let it dry then put a top layer of my current favorite hot pink. I liked green when I was younger but now have a hard time seeing it especially against a white target. The white base paint makes the pink brighter. I can pick my front sights up quicker with the paint.

I just did it like an hour ago. I haven't shot it yet. I'll let you know when I do, though. Just doing dry-fire drills, it seems much quicker. Before, I would almost try to present my gun at an upward angle (muzzle up) so I would pick up the front sight first, but now I don't have to. The orange is bright enough that my eye is naturally drawn to it. That was the main point. It's worth trying on your sights. Acrylic paint is cheap as hell. I think you can get a small bottle for $3-4 at Hobby Lobby or somewhere. It is water-based for easy cleanup if you don't like it.

I have done the same for my HK; unfortunately there not as many options for HKs as there are Glock, which is a good point for Glocks.

I will try the Heinie sights, they are one of he few sights available for HK.

I just did something similar to my Glock 31.

sorry for the crappy cell phone pic, but there are better pics on the web.

in the dark, it has the regular 3-dot tritium sight picture.

it's the ameriglo pro operator setup for glocks.

i'm switching all my glocks over to this setup.

for $80 a set, i can't see a reason not to. and it'll give me a reason to use the sight pusher more.

I put the orange ringed front sight on my G27. It works well if the sun is at your back (shining directly onto the sight) any other situation, it is SLOWER to acquire IMO. Wish I'd ordered the white one instead. YMMV.

On the Warren Tactical sights on my G34, I painted the back face of the front sight first with white Liquid Paper (for a base) and then with Testor's Neon Green. They work superbly for me-this last weekend, I shot my most accurate IDPA match ever with them.

Best, Jon
