The untangling of the Christmas lights.

Only took about 2 hours this year.

Of course I tested them and changed out the burnt out bulbs, no problems. Took a couple hours of climbing around on the roof to get them on. Came down and plugged them in, about a third of them wouldn't light up. Guess I will be climbing back up tomorrow.

I suppose I could have put up the lights last week when it was 68*, but I thought that doing it in 32* weather would put me more in the spirit of things.

Anybody else got their lights up? Post up some pictures.

A suggestion? Wrap them on paper towel tubes. It actually works fairly well.

I actually got the christmas lights out today too. Took about 30 seconds to untangle 'em, 10 minutes to put the clips up, and five to put the colored strands on the arch and column of the entryway. I didn't string the lights on the eaves, I'll do that tomorrow, should only take a few minutes with the clips already up.

We also stopped off at Lowes and picked up a nice 6' douglas fir, lights for it, and a natural wreath for the front door. Made it out for under a hundred bucks, which wasn't bad at all. Took maybe 10 minutes to get the tree trimmed, in the stand, and the lights on it. Tomorrow we're going to put some lights on my wife's deer head just because, and maybe some on her elk antlers.

    I love christmas lights!

I stopped hanging outdoor lights years ago. My tree is pre-lit and goes together in under a minute.

When you take them down just feed them into a rubbermaid bin in a circular pattern. Takes just a little longer but the come out very neatly.

    Lights are up. No pix.

I spent 3 trips to Lowe's to get color-changing LED's this year for the house. I started with 25-bulb strands of GE. Completely random, no way to connect them - RETURN. I then went back on recon. Finally went back a 3rd time, after striking out online (but realizing the gray market of customized lights using GE sets - waaaaaay above my pay grade) and got a set of Lowe's brand 48bulbs with remote. These would JUST ABOUT fit across the front of the house.

Friday AM, pulling the X-mas stuff down I discovered I bot 2 sets of GE 36 bulb after Christmas last year. Whoops!

So we have double lites up. And a Snowman doing a MJ Fox impression.

The cost of basic Christmas lights has dropped so dramatically the last few years that if any string is questionable, I just get new ones. 50 light sets for $1.99 - $3.99. Even the LED sets are relatively cheap... when they first came out, it was like $50 for a string, now it is less than $20. We don't put up a ton -- just the tree, some on the deck, and a couple bushes outside.

Why oh earth would you put up with that? Coil them like a rope when you put them away and you won't have to deal with that mess.

Wow, you guys just don't understand the meaning of tradition, do you? My dad did. I do it, if I have kids they will learn to do it also. Just because it is a dumb, easily resolved issue, doesn't mean you should stop doing it.

It sets the whole tone for the season.

Less than $5 at Walmart for a box of lights. I just buy new ones each year.

Doncha just love the shouting when the lights come out of the attic. I put up the tree, hang the lights and then watch football. I 'aint touchin' no ornaments.

I put each string of lights into a separate grocery bag. they go in real neat, sometime during the summer months they crawl around the attic and get all tangled up. Takes about 11 months for those suckers to get that way but they always manage to do it. Must be the rotation of the earth.
