In the BG (Before Glock) days of the 1970s I bought a Colt Gov. to carry. Later, about 1984 I bought a backup gun in the form of a little Detonics. Just like Glocks, you could use the bigger guns mags in it like full length 1911 Gov mags.

Flash forward many years and I was shooting my first Glock 36 and thought to myself that it felt like a lot like the Detonics when I shot it.

Flash forward again and I was out shooting last weekend. I usually take 3 to five guns from my shooty collection plus my current carry out to shoot and this time took the Detonics. A shooting buddy who is heavy into the Glock world saw it and wanted to shoot it and I said sure. Having never shot a Detonics his comment is it reminded him of shooting a Glock 36. Yes the next step is to take them out and shoot them next to each other in the future.

The detonics must be very different from a normal 1911, or the glock 36 must be very different from other glocks for that to be true for me:dunno:

Hmm, the G36 is the only Glock I've ever shot that I didn't like. With the narrower backstrap, the "glock grip angle" issue that has never bugged me before bugged me.

Which gunzine writer cum fictional novelist dude that favored his characters to carry Detonics? Was it Jerry Aherns or somebody like that?

I don't see any similarities besides the very basics.

I know. Weird. The Detonics is an all steel pistol that weighs almost 32 ounces with an empty mag where the Glock 36 is a fluffy at about 22.5 ounces with an empty mag. I have a small Taurus PT145 Millenium Pro, which is a real DAO and does carry 10 rounds and has a composite frame with steel slide at 23 ounces with an empty mag and it feels nothing like the Glock. I can take my Colt Defender which does have an Aluminum alloy frame and weighs in at about 25 and a third ounces with empty mag and it feels nothing like the Detonics. Maybe they all launch lead reliably and with good results so maybe who cares, right?

it's the single stack. most comfortably pistol glock makes. and mine is extremely accurate. not a 1911 for sure, but not a bad pistol for the price or purpose.

I had a 36 and really tried to like it but like all but one of my glocks, I sold it. I wish I liked Glocks. With LEO pricing you can get them dirt cheap. I know they are good guns. I just don't like the way they feel or how I shoot them.

It was Ahern's "The Survivalist" series. I'm embarrassed that I know that, because it means that I read the books. But hey, I was in my late teens/early twenties, AND it was the 80s. I mean, regardless of age, who didn't do dumb stuff in the 80s?

I have a 36 (been shooting it a bit lately) and a number of 1911s, from full size down to a Compac. No offense to the OP but the Glock ain't nothin' like any of the 1911s.

    Just sayin',
    Dave
