Only recently browsing this forum (not new to GT) and thinking about GSSF. (If there are some previous thread search parameters that address the following just throw them my way & I'll go dig it out.) Are there any considerations I should look at in choosing an ammo type for matches, other than reasonable accuracy and full reliability? I don't EVER plan to reload for pistol so am soliciting thoughts on factory ammo only. Frankly, my 17 gets (so far) reasonable accuracy & xlnt reliability using the regular CCI practice ammo I buy in caselots (115gr FMJ). Any reason not to use it at matches?

I get a slight increase in accuracy that's noticeable at 25 yds using Hornady's 124gr XTP for example but, obviously, at much more expense. Should I just keep trying different other JHP's searching for that extra 1/2" reduction in group size (typically 5-6" unsupported)? Naturally I'd rather spend the money on practice. I've no experience with the somewhat hotter S&B FMJ ammo, although it's priced pretty competitively as well. Just your thoughts on what a non-reloading newbie looking at GSSF matches should think about for ammo. Thanks! :)

    WIG19,
Donna & I shoot Winchester white-box 115-FMJ for practice & matches. Haven't had any reason to change yet. Inexpensive & plenty accurate in factory & aftermarket barrels. Hope this helps! Tony.

Federal American Eagle works well for factory ammo as well. :) Yeah Tony, I did shoot factory ammo at one time.
