ok, just want to try to clear up some of my own confusion. i have a misr with an un threaded barrell. to make it compliant i would have to change piston, stock, hand guard, pistol grip and mag follower right? or do i need to change more items?

The thing that made it clear for me was learning that there's only certain items that apply is "imported parts" and you can only have 10 of these imported parts, here is the list parts with a * apply to the AK:

    (1) Frames, receivers, receiver castings, forgings or stampings *
    (2) Barrels *
    (3) Barrel extensions
    (4) Mounting blocks (trunions) *
    (5) Muzzle attachments *
    (6) Bolts *
    (7) Bolt carriers *
    (8) Operating rods
    (9) Gas pistons *
    (10) Trigger housings
    (11) Triggers *
    (12) Hammers *
    (13) Sears
    (14) Disconnectors *
    (15) Buttstocks *
    (16) Pistol grips *
    (17) Forearms, handguards *
    (18) Magazine bodies *
    (19) Followers *
    (20) Floorplates *

Ak's are easy to make 922r compliant due to the furniture and FCG counting as 3 parts each.
Put a ironwood stock set and a G2 trigger in just about any AK that doesn't have a threaded barrel and it will be 922r compliant
