    That's what most say. 5.56 / .223 of our beloved M16/AR15 needs to fragment to stay 'effective', otherwise it will just be poking better .22 holes. Barrel length, playing an effect on the bullet's velocity, determines what's the optimum range for the weapon.

    On the otherhand, M14's 7.62x51 and AK's 7.62x39 uses brute force as it's primary punching power.
