Just out of curiousity, how many people use a Swedish Mauser to hunt deer? How many in West Va? Anything else taken with it?

I use one, and the number of whitetail deer I've taken with it is about 14.

My father hogs my 6.5 Swede when elk season starts - local elk are smaller than the North American variety. Last season he bagged a 300lb 1½yr old bull. One shot a little behind the shoulder, bull was found dead 100yds later. Bullet had expanded perfectly.

I've also used in on grouse. Worked just fine.

I would use the 6.5x55 for deer, I want to get a Winchester 6.5x55 model 70, I know they used to make em. It would be a fine deer rifle though.

I've never shot a deer with one.

Shot several of feral hogs in Australia with one. Also used it on Kangaroos. Worked fine.

I've killed a lot of game with the 6.5 Swede but always in one of it's civilian platforms - Remington 700 classic and Winchester 70 featherweight.

Have been through 5 or 6 of the military 96's, too, but never used them in the field.

    Hi ILikeFtLbs,

As much as I'd like to, I currently do not own a 6.5x55 but wish I did. I do have a .260 Remington which is pretty close to identical in performance with factory loads. I've used it successfully on a number of whitetail deer with great results. A very accurate rife providing very good terminal effects.

My grandpa killed a couple of hundred deer before the 7x64 Brenneke became popular in Europe.
It works fine with old fashioned bullets for close to middle range shots.
