After lugging a few wheelbarrows full of fire wood closer to the house, I decided to hit a few golf balls into the lake this afternoon. It's only about 350 yards from my shore to directly across the lake. But, due to a slice and the brisk wind out the south, the balls traveled right and past the point on the far shore.

Don't think I'll be able to do it tomorrow after we get snow later tonight. You get one heck of a roll on ice!!

So how many you estimate you've put in the lake?

About 1 large bucket this year. Where I hit most of them the bottom is muddy, so figure they sink into the muck and maybe a million years from now some archaeologist will try to figure out what type of creature laid all the fossilized eggs.

Good grief...the head on that driver looks like a football cut in half...that’s gotta be fun...

Hitting golf balls into a lake for no reason might be the best money a person could spend on therapy.

Throwing rocks down into an old water well works too, but it's not quite as fun.

Ha-Ha...yup it's a big one for sure. But the way I hit the ball, the bigger the head, the less idea of which way the ball will go.

I was gonna' make a wicked funny joke, but decided against it.....I'm sure most people would have liked it...except the mods.

We used to play ice golf on our frozen lake. You can lay out a nice course after all the ice fisherman leave you some holes. It helps to use orange balls.

Seems like it would be more challenging to do it while they were still fishing.

My father’s only par at the long par 3 over water was when we played on a frozen day. He shot a worm burner that skipped on the ice and rolled up onto the green. We were chuckling like teenagers and he still talks about that shot. :D

You sure that shoreline is 500?

If you are right, you’re a monster!

No, the shoreline shown is closer, the 500 yard mark is to the right in the photo where there is a cove. But yeah, a decently whacked golf ball will travel a long ways on ice, especially with a stiff breeze pushing it.

I like to hit balls into the slums of Hong Kong from the roof of the Intercontinental. ;)

Friend of mine was playing with some brothers. Second hole is a par 3 over water. One of the brothers tees up and uses a putter and lands on the green. Two shots later and he pars the hole with 3 putts.

Years ago, I was playing the golf course at Gunnison CO after the season was over. It was October. The grass had quit growing but didn't need mowing, the greens were decent, and it was free.

On a 500+ par five, I really hit a great drive, and because the fairway was so hard the ball bounced and carried a long way. We were stunned.

Then I hit a 3-wood and just clobbered it. It rolled up onto the green - I missed a double-eagle by about 14 feet!

I two-putted from there for a birdie. I was so close to glory!

This was a real course, mind you. Not some goofy lake. :cowboy:

Very weird you posted this because the exact same thing happened to me several years ago, two perfect shots and I was on the green. Like you, because I suck, I two putted as well. It was still a very, very exciting experience to be a part of. For those that don't golf hitting a hole in one is really easy compared to a double eagle.
