Guys, I wanted to get your take on these 2 belts. I came across these 2 belts today and was comparing the 5.11 and the 5 stitch Wilderness Inst belt and could tell no difference in the stiffness of the 2. Actuall they both felt almost identical. This place had the 5.11 for $30 even and they had my size so I went ahead and picked it up. Good or bad move?

I'm sure you did fine. If you ever see the two together, Wilderness gets the nod everytime. In fact get a wilderness and dump the 5-11 belt.

While I am not doubting the Wilderness is better I have used a 511 belt both at work and not at work and it seems to have done a splendid job of keeping my pistol in place including on a ten state motorcycle ride. I wished it held my gut in a bit better but perhaps that is best left for another day.

The wilderness buckle is tested to withstand 5,500lbs. I'm not so sure that the 5.11 can do the same.

Which I'm sure is a great selling feature for several people but not really a factor for me . I've been using a cheap belt for a gun belt for the last year and the buckle has held up great so Im sure the thick metal buckle on the 5.11 will be fine.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys.

I've never had a 5.11 "Instructor" belt, but I've had some of their other stuff and have been way less than impressed. I'd personally get a Wilderness.

The 511 operators belt is made in China. The Wilderness is 100% USA. Thats the difference.

That was your call, but me I'll take the Wilderness every time. I have two and after many years of use they holding up well. Wilderness can replace the Velcro for a small fee. The 511? well you don't get that kind of support with chinese crap you just toss it.

I have the 5.11 and after maybe two years still think it's pretty good. I'm sure the wilderness is a bit better but the 5.11 works for me. The local shop carries them so it convenient for me.

My Wilderness Instructors belt is made well. That said, I've moved to the 5 stitch frequent flyer belt because the buckle is a LOT lighter, quieter around sleeping wife and kids. I don't need the weight bearing feature of the 5K pound buckle.

I didn't like the Frequent Flyer.. but I think that had more to do w/ me getting the 1.25in, instead of the 1.5in.
