Is that actual temperature or chill factor? Big difference.

In Glasgow Montana last night it was 52F below chill factor, but only 26F below actual temp.

-49 would make anybody's peter sink.

That being said, I'd rather just wear my Carhartt jacket and a hat before invading Mexico. But I would go back to Tijuana in a heartbeat.

From my experience, International Falls usually is the coldest spot in the
US. Such extremes so far south are very unusual.

My sympathies go out to those that are having to endure such extremes.

The record low temperature for Minnesota wasn't set in International Falls.

It was set in Tower, MN at exactly -60F, in 1996. Not the wind chill, the actual temperature.

I can't even imagine an air temperature that cold

The antifreeze in my car is only good down to about -45F.

The record low temp for where I live is 'only' -34F.

I have experienced -32F, that I can remember.

Those people who say you 'don't have to warm your car up' 'Just start it and drove it easy for the first few minutes'....have never experienced temperatures in the -20 to -30F range!

Actual air temp.

Peter sink and nearby middle sink are shallow depressions in the mountains above Bear Lake Utah (10,000+ feet elevation). They fill with cold air at night and in the day warmer air flows over them with out disturbing the sinks so the next night they get even colder. This produces a local super cold spot. I have been there when it was -29. Your spit cracks in the air as it freezes.

I experienced -25f in Omaha one night, definitely do NOT want to do that again. Tried to start my car, sounded like shrieking metal.
