I'm not new to concealed carry but it's been a while since I've done so. When I did conceal carry I carried a 19 but it never felt comfortable. Before I stopped CC I briefly concealed carried a 43 and it felt much better. Now I'm back on the bandwagon and I'm not sure which gun to pick up. I can get a 48 today but a 43x harder to find. Needless to say it's not an option to rent and try either of them out before buying. so I'm going to have to find out the hard way and I need your guys's help.

43x. But in this world, whichever you can find first :)

I’ve bought both. 43x has the edge for concealed.

Nothing wrong with the 48, it's literally just 3/4 of an inch longer in the slide than the 43X.

I went from a G19 to a G43X recently after being in the same boat as you OP, but at the end of the day, for CCW, the G48 just didn’t really bring enough to the table, as it pertains to CCW, for me to purchase it over the 43X. If I lived in a state that limited capacity, and I wanted something full size’ish, I would buy the 48. That being said, like others have said, get what you can, when you can.

If you carry AIWB the 48 gives up nothing in terms of concealment. It’s THE carry choice for me. If Springfield would make a 48 sized equivalent of the Hellcat, that might change.

I've been carrying a G43 for about two years now, mostly pocket carry, but recently tried IWB. I thought IWB would be quite uncomfortable but to my surprise I actually like it better than pocket carry. So this has me thinking about a G48 as I'd like the extra capacity, especially with the Shield Arms mags. I figure since I can swap my G43 slide onto a 48 I could get the best of both worlds.

I find the G43x very easy to conceal and quite the package with the 15 rounds mags.

I figured if I'm going to get a smaller gun I may as well get a smaller gun. I went with the 43X.

Like many of us I've spent what feels like a lifetime finding the "right" concealed carry for ME. The 357 snubby has a role and so does the 380 LCP II and the Kahr PM9. But none of them really had me where I wanted to be. G43X has been IT at least for me. Add the 15 round mags that are reliable and it click all the boxes. So much more comfortable than all the above to actually shoot and still be easily concealed.

I need to do some testing but I am hopeful the Barnes solid hard cast in 9mm will perform well so I can use the 43X in the woods over the usual S&W M&P 340 with 357 Barnes solid hard cast. Yes I know the 357 is superior but 15 v 5 means something IF the 9mm hard cast can perform.

I found an extremely lightly used silver 48 so I snagged that and have been really happy with the shootability of it. Added XS Big Dots (white ones). They look good and shoot on point.

    Only question is:
What can you do with a 48 you can not do with the 43X?
    43X gives more concealment options.

I would stick with the 43. It's easier to concealed and carry and if you have to have more rounds in the magazine, that is easily done.

I was debating between the two and went with the 48. That extra 3/4" was nothing in concealment factor. And what topped it, was the extra sight radius, more velocity and bullet stability. A 3 1/2" barrel compared to a 4 1/4" barrel.
Plus, the way that the recoil spring indexing lug on the slide is much longer, I do not worry about if the slide hits that critical area while being taken apart or possibly hitting something in use.
That lower lug on any other type of Glock is only 1/8" thick and if it hits a hard surface it will bend/deform and never be the same. I know it's rare, but can happen. Might even be difficult in this day waiting on a new slide.
And it just's feels darn good in the hand like a 9mm Colt Commander does.

What can you do with a 43x that you can't do with a 43?

I can make a 43 hold 10 rounds, just by swapping mags or baseplates, but I can't make a 43X fit in my pocket or ankle holster very easily.
(obviously that doesn't apply to the guys who are always saying on the internet that they pocket carry a Glock 21 )
