.45 cal Glock - which model to buy?

I've been thinking of picking-up another Glock (range and occasional carry) in a .45 cal. Looked at all available Glock 45 cal. models including the newest 30sf. I'm familiar with the full-size 1911 (military carry) and proficient with recoil, pms, etc. on them.

I enjoy shooting the Glocks I now have and would like to add one more to the gun case. This addition will be primarily used at the shooting range and as an occassional winter carry.

Which one is the most accurate shooter and less recoil so I can share range shooting with my wife (she likes my G19 and quite proficient with it too).

Thoughts plus and minus are much appreciated.

If you'll only carry it in winter and use it at the range, and the wife will shoot it, I say get the G21SF, if your wife likes the size of the G19 then G30SF.

i'll get shouted down for the suggestion, but i absolutely love my g38 45gap. Best balanced glock i've ever shot. The 8 round magazine actually holds 9 (fairly easily), so 10 rounds of 45 power and accuracy in a very friendly package. And available nib from cdnn for $399.99 plus shipping.

CWO USN:
We agree with pierced456 that the G36 is great for shooters with small hands, with the following disclaimer: Small hands may not be very strong hands; and recoil on the G36 is substantial. It may be objectionable to a female shooter. Our little mate flatly refuses to shoot our G36. Recoil is too violent for her, making the pistol no fun. If it is not fun, she simply will not play.

Now, Mama is quite delicate in her wrists and hands, even for an adult female. Some women may be OK with the G36. For us (and probably for most reasonably fit men), the recoil is manageable and the G36 can be shot well with practice. However, for shooters with less-than-average strength in their hands and wrists (like many female shooters) the little beast may be a bit much to be enjoyed.

Other than the recoil, we can recommend the G36 without reservation.

Please consider...

We trudge on.

Since the frame of the G19 and G38 are the same I will suggest you get the G38. How does the G19 feel in your hand?
Front Sight, Officers Match, BOGE & OMG its Jason:

Surprising that you all pointed out the G38. I felt that size and feel of the G38 closely resembled my G19. However, none of the nearby (hour or so drive) shooting range has a rental pistola of this make/model for the taking. Hence, no "seat of pants" for its handling characteristics (recoil, etc).

Thank you for your insights. We are taking careful notes of everyones inputs as we deliberate our pending purchase. Please keep 'em coming.

I'm right there with you CWO USN, I'm also looking for a .45 cal Glock.

I bought a Springfield 1911 a while back, and I really like the .45 caliber round. That's the reason that I'm looking for the same caliber Glock...I can buy the ammo in bulk and use it in both guns.

Right now I'm trying to choose between the G36 and the G30SF. (I picked up a G21 at the gunshop, and it seemed massive to me!). I really like the overall size of the G36, but I like the capacity of the G30SF, so that's where I stand right now... :dunno:

If you'll consider a GAP, the 38 is 9+1. I know they advertise 8 round mag capacity, but my brand new mags held 9 from the first load. The balance of the 38 is just fantastic.

Hey Warrant - do yourself a favor, rent the G30 & G21 and figure out which is preferable.

I have both the G30SF and G21SF, I personally like the 30 better and believe it to be the more accurate of the two. The 45ACP is an easy shooting round to begin with and the dual-recoil spring in the 30 makes handling very easy.

Take care!

G21 is the finest combat-capable handgun system in the world. IMHO. ;)

G30 is the softest shooting, most accurate GLOCK I've ever operated.

G36 is the easiest to conceal GLOCK extant.

I own all three. If you plan on carrying the weapon more than "very occasionally", I say the G30(SF) is the one for you. If it gets carried just "every so often" and under a winter coat/jacket, then without a hesitation I suggest the G21(SF). If you think you might ever carry the weapon "often", get the G36.

I have a G30SF and that is the only Glock that I own. I really like it, shoot it regularly and carry it every day, all seasons, anywhere it is legal to carry.

My main purpose is self defense (CWP). I find it very easy to conceal with an M-Tac holster (IWB), Smart Carry for wearing sweats, etc., and right now I'm carrying OWB with an inexpensive Glock Sport/Combat holster.

I finally have the mags "broke in" and carry the 10 round mag +1. I also purchased "several" 13 round hi-cap G21 mags. Using the G21 13 round mags at the range is a lot of fun. I usually shoot 25 rounds per target, so a load of 12 and 13 works out nicely.

As I said, I haven't shot any other Glock, so I can't compare. I just know that it conceals very well, shoots better than I do :embarassed:, easy recoil, and goes bang each time I pull the trigger. I'm very satisfied.
