.45 blackpowder pistol

    got a pistol from my grandfather for xmas its a 45 caliber sidelock singleshot with a 6 in rifled barrel. it is made in dikar spain. i am trying to figure out the manufactre there is no other markins on it beside caliber city and serial # 251xxx. what would be a good load to use from this any info would be helpfull.

    I would start with 25gr of FFFG Goex under a patched roundball and work up to 35gr, maybe 40gr of powder. I would not go over 40gr of powder. You may want to try a wonderwad under that patched roundball.

    Roundball diameter would be .440 or .445 depending on the thickness of the cloth used for patching material. I recommend that you buy a roundball mold from LEE.

    BTW, do not use petroleum based lubricants or solvents. Use ony solvents and lubes made for blackpowder. Use hot, soapy water for cleaning. A range rod with a cleaning jag and patch makes for easy cleaning.
