But the g30 has a 3.77" barrel...
So that'll put you somewhere between 800-850fps.
A good bullet profile for glocks is the 200gr RNFP that a lot of cowboy action shooters use. Available from a lot of outfits and they feed well in any .45acp chambered glock I've owned.

I don't reload, but my love of the 45acp & 45Colt wheelgun, maybe what gets me started. I've yet to find an affordable and comfortable to shoot commercial (brass cased) load. Maybe I'm just recoil sensitive. Regardless, I have multiple 45ACP/LC da revolvers that I don't shoot as much as I'd like.

Watching this thread. And if anyone knows of a retail source for light loaded 45acp/lc ammo hit me up. I'm all ears.

Thanks,

GregB

Might I ask which other ones you tested?
Unique, w231, aa#5, wst, wsf, universal. Clays, red dot, rs comp, tg, vv320, 452aa (wst replaced it) there are probably one or two more.

I loaded up about 700 of these Rainier 200gr flat-nosed bullets for target shooting and plinking last year. I used a bunch of different powders but all the rounds shot through my G36 worked without issue. In fact, until reading this thread I didn't know WC bullets gave problems in the G30 - 36. These aren't WC rounds but flat nosed and worked fine for me:

Exactly why you should reload, even if you only shoot 100rds a month. You can make what ever you want

The issue with swc is the shoulder, not the point or meplat.

Like said most, for some people they will work, but for the majority they will not. I have owned 3 G30 models and non will feed SWC bullets

The shape of the swc has a lot to do with it too.

Very true,my g37 likes the lyman 452460(200gr.) but will not run the rcbs 201gr. swc due to it's ever so slightly different shoulder.

Clays barely makes Major PF (730 fps) with 230 gr bullets at max loadings.

My pair of Titegroup loadings with 200 gr RNFP bullets are both mild shooting, 4,0 gr of TG for 730 fps, and 4.8 gr for 840 fps....

The same velocities with HP38/WW231 (identical, same powder) were achieved with 5.0 gr and 5.7 gr, respectively, but the mild 231 loadings left both dirty cases and dirty pistols, although otherwise still fine.

Yeah but it's TG!!!
Agree about Clays. It can spike as you reach max pressures, why it's best for minor loads.

I use Titegroup. Haven't bothered with anything else since I started using it.

The shape of semi-wadcutters varies quite a bit. They are very definitely not created equal. It's that shape and how deep it's seated that determines whether a given gun will feed it or not.

I have been shooting the Missouri Bullet Company 200 gr. RNFP "OddBall" Coated Bullets in my G38 45GAP. So far they are feeding 100%.
I have loaded lots of Missouri Bullet Company 230 gr. RN SoftBall for my Colt 1911 and S&W 625. Not a Glock, but they seem to feed just like 230 Ball.
I have loaded several powders over the years. My current one is American Select. Hornady has 5.0 @ 800 fps from a 5" barrel. I have not chronographed the load. I believe 4.5 should make 170 PF from a 5" with no problem. Not sure about the short barrel velocity, 4.5 might not make 170 from it.

Pretty much the whole ball of wax.
i just picked up some .45 acp dies and am going to start reloading it too; of course i'm putting the cart before the horse as i don't have a G30 yet. at any rate, i'm a big fan of the summers hi-tek in 9mm and i'm assuming the .45 is just as nice. given the discussion here, i shouldn't bother with SWC, but go to the RN or RNFP offerings:

http://www.summersenterprisesllc.co...ast-lead-bullet-p/hi-tek-45-200grrnfp-500.htm

http://www.summersenterprisesllc.co...rd-cast-lead-bullet-p/hi-tek-45-233gr-500.htm

is this just a question of choosing between 200 and 233 grain? do they seat at similar depths or is that something to take into consideration?

I would steer clear of SWC for the G30. I prefer the 230gr in RN profiles, but the 200's will work fine as well.
