My miserable luck with Ranger T-Series tests continues.

More weak velocity from a Winchester 165gr load. Combined with inconsistent expansion from the Ranger-T = no thanks.

Any 10mm plans? I can send you some ammo and .22 Mag if you get a 6.5".

Wonder how the Federal Hydra-Shok 180 (not HST) would perform.
    (It's what I've got other than Ranger T 165)

Scary result considering bare gel. I no longer recommend Ranger-Ts. Gold Dots and HSTs are all one needs.

That is some low velocity it seems, I've ran several 165gr factory loads from my 3" Kahr CM40 and have averaged typically right around 1,100 fps give or take about 10-15 fps either way. You only getting around 1,060 fps avg from the 4" G23 seems a little low, maybe it's a slow batch or something.

To add: the reason I thought 1,060 was slow for a 165gr .40 is because I clocked 147gr HST 9mm doing an average of around 1,020 from my G17, which is only 18gr and 40 fps difference. No wonder some think the .40 isn't much better than a 9mm.

I've seen enough failures to expand in cleargel with known good performers to blame the cleargel, not the bullet. Ordinance gel is ordinance gel, Simtest is basically ordinance gel with some preservatives so it doesn't spoil. Cleargel is a polymer, not a gelatin. It just doesn't seem to have the same hydraulic characteristics that gelatin does.

As for velocity, I have clocked Ranger 40TA loads from the old black ones to the newer ones and they run just under 1100 even in my Beretta 96. The velocity is correct and consistent with what this load has always done.

The Ranger T's have not been up to speed and performance lately. I would be concerned if I carried any.
