I have been using Bullseye reloading pistol powder at 5 grains with 180 .40 bullets. This has made the perfect round for ME. Now I can't find any Bullseye powder anywhere. What would anyone suggest as an alternate (that is available)?

The better question is, What powder can you find?

You need to make a list of potential powders for which you can load those 180gr bullets. Visit the powder manufacturer reloading data sites and copy down the listed powders. Take that list with you if you're scrounging LGSs and when you're sitting in front of your internet access device.

    PCJim has it right.

BE is a fast powder for that bullet weight and caliber, yielding nice target style loads, no doubt.

Lately, I have seen more of the slower powder variety come available. I think some of the problem with availability of the faster powders is the demand from shotgun target loaders who compete for the same "burn rates".

I would print out, or save on your desktop, a powder burn rate chart. Have it with you when you are powder shopping and select a powder close to Bullseye in burn rate that you CAN find. I love BE and use it in 40SW too, but in truth, I think AA2, Red Dot, WW231, and at least a half dozen other powders would do the same thing BE does.

WST is fantastic with the 180's as long as your sensible with it.

I found a few lbs of BE last month. Haven't tested it yet but I hear nothing but good about it

I was able to find a few pounds of #5 and loaded 2000 rounds with 180s.

Seems to work fine for me. I run lower pressures for the range and IDPA.

I carry the powder chart in my car in case someone has anything usable in stock.
