I'd be interested in knowing how many grains of Longshot it would take to reach the neck/shoulder junction. Not proposing using Longshot for your cartridge, just trying to make a comparison to a project i'm working on. Thanks if you do happen to try it.

Maxed out the 300mp today with the 125s and 158s.
Blazer SP brass with S&B SR primers

125gr xtp, 22.5g 300mp 1.270"oal
1969fps/1075ft-lbs!!!

158gr php, 18.5g 300mp 1.270"oal
1604fps/902ft-lbs!!!

Case heads are still under .476

As always don't try to replicate my data without careful workups!!!

Consider me impressed with 300mp in the casull. I didn't try any more with the 180s as I couldn' compress much more in there over the 16g load. I'll start working up h110 and aa9 next.

Awesome numbers! Accuracy?

Very similar charges and velocities to alliants online resource for .357 Magnum, interesting. Nice work and thanks for the update!

Started my 296 workups today. I only used 125gr xtp's to start.

As always use my data for informational purposes only!
Once fired blazer brass and S&B SR primers
125gr xtp
1.270" OAL

19.5gr win296: 1696fps/798lbs, .475" case head
20.5gr win 296: 1741fps/841lbs, .476" case head

I had a squib on one of my 20.5g loads. Primer went off but the charge didn't. Thankfully the bullet was just barely stuck in the throat and a quick slap with a cleaning rod cleared the bore. 296 is definitely harder to light than the 300mp, also seems a bit dirty compared to my 300mp loads. I may step up to a SRM primer to attempt to clean things up.

More testing to follow...

Wow time flies when life happens lol. Its been over 3 months and i havent shot a round of anything in that timeframe so no updates on the casull lately. I still need to up my 296 charges on the 125s and start the 158 and 180gr workups. I should be getting some time in the near future to finally continue working loads up and will post results.

No still haven't been able to update my data, I have new loads ready to go but haven't gotten a chance to test yet. Saturday looks like it may shape out well enough to run some tests, ill post this weekend with an update.

Time for some much needed updates! As said originalIy i was never intending this to be a high velocity light bullet lazer shooter but it seems that the little 38wby is very capable of this. I was gifted some lightweight slugs from a very generous member here who was wondering just how fast i could get them moving.

Hows this for a pistol round!!!

The 90xtps are the cheapest to obtain so im using them as my initial baseline. I moved up a notch in the burn rate chart and used aa9 for these. As always dont replicate my data without careful workups!

90xtp, Blazer SP 45 brass, s&b SR primers, COL 1.205"
15.0g aa9: 1498fps, 448lbs, .474CH
16.0g aa9: 1656fps, 547lbs, .474CH
17.0g aa9: 1719fps, 590lbs, .474CH
18.0g aa9: 1855fps, 687lbs, .4745CH
18.5g aa9: 1904fps, 724lbs, .4745CH
19.0g aa9: 1968fps, 773lbs, .4745CH
19.5g aa9: 2051fps, 840lbs, .4745CH
20.0g aa9: 2110fps, 889lbs, .475CH

Case heads are still very low and i have a little more room in the case so im hoping to get some more steam from the little slugs. I believe a primer swap will help get the speed up based on what data i have obtained below....

As a test i swapped my my 125gr 296 and 300mp loads from S&B SR primers to cci400s. This was done to see if i could clean up my 296 loads and to see how the 300mp would react. Loads were with blazer SP 45 brass and a 125gr xtp loaded to 1.275" cci 400s.

20.5gr 296 loads went from 1741fps and 841lbs with a .476CH to 1852fps and 951lbs! Case heads went from .476 DOWN to .475! Overall much cleaner and extreme spreads dropped. Win win all around!

Now seeing this i was excited to see if the 300mp would bump up as well with the hotter primer?

22.5g 300mp went 1969fps and 1075lbs with a .475CH

2014fps and 1125lbs 5 shot average with maintaining the same .475 case head! Wow!

Seeing this ill have to rework all my aa9 loads with the 400s to see if it responds the same way now. I think the 90s will be able to get between 22 and 2300fps when the magic combo is found and who knows when the even lighter slugs get moving. The 80gr barnes may not be able to get to the 90xtp speeds just because it takes up more space but i have no doubt it will move.

Next phase will be to work the 90xtp combo a bit more and then go for the lightweights. Ill post data as i get it.

This 38wby is a fun little round!!!

WOW! Those are some impressive #'s from a .357 bore!!!, close to what I achieved in 45 SUPER G21..... so 38 Casull, 38 WBY or 38/45 SUPER ..... any could apply....... Great job!
From what I saw shooting your barrel it was very accurate..... time for some long range Glocking.... varmints beware!

Finished the 90xtp aa9 loads. They are definitely screamers!

90xtp, Blazer SP 45 brass, cci400s, COL 1.205"

20.5g went 2154fps and 927lbs .475CH
21g went 2267fps and 1026lbs .475CH
21.5g went 2309fps and 1065lbs .4755CH
22.0g went 2418fps and 1168lbs .4755CH

22g was almost filling the case and 2400fps was impressive so i didnt try for anymore.

I began working up 90xtps with some alliant 2400 as well. 18g of 2400 got to 2169fps and 939lbs of energy. Case heads were only at .4745 so i had room to grow. I could probably get another 1.5g in the case.
