I'm happy that you are still testing the 357Sig round. Over the years For every .40 S&W that I own, I also have a .9mm bull barrel and a .357Sig barrel for the same....regardless if the manufacturer... Flick, Sig, Springfield XD and others. They all work well. Ill report that my favorite is the 357Sig and always will be. It is snappy for some......I suggest you stay with a 9mm. The .40S&W is a good round. Sadly though....I report that I have to keep all three calubers as I stacked up with ammo accordingly back when a certain CA ammo distributor sold all three rounds in Speer Gold Dot for 150.00$ per thousand. That company MiWall got a big order from me. Oh yea, they were JPG also.

I was sort of blindly testing Winchester AutoComp in the 357Sig with the same 115 gr JHP with 8.2 gr of AutoComp @ 1432 fps and 1444 fps from the Glock 29 with the Lone Wolf Dist conversion 3.78" BBL Very nice load! COL 1.1275” CCI 550 SP Speer case, Expansion 0.4255” Primers look good.

Acc= yet to be established. All five on 6" white of 8" target at 25 yards.

That kind of V potential is the only reason I mess with 800X.
More practical at 8-8.5g and around 1300-1400 fps with 147g.

Need a penetrating piggy round that won't fragment and explode shortly after impact, so...

They gas checked real smoothly in a Lee .357/.38 Sizer die, which I did to hopefully reduce leading and will start testing them soon to around 1300-1350fps using WSF and 800X (see above post for 147g potential Velocity of 1400+) with accuracy critical.
COAL: 1.168" (long for case capacity and fits Bar-Sto custom match 6" bbl fine, also P226 magazine with no issue).

Be careful there are not may loadings for the 147 grain in 357 Sig, however 800X and LongShot may yield your best numbers...
I did a Pull-Down of Underwood's 125 FMJ load, and the way I obtained these was a forum member here, had his gun blown up. The cartridges may have been damaged and possibly not fully locked in battery or a bullet setback issue. Although Kevin was pushing them pretty hard with these loads.

You're probably familiar with these. The old Hodgdon/IMR/Winchester powder load pages in here, along with the old Speer (heavy) are good baselines to start. The variations in max loadings aren't as insane as for our 10mm, of course.
I little while back I bought a KKM 6" 357 SIG barrel for my G35 Gen4. My goal is to see what it can do using actual .357" bullets originally designed for the .357 Magnum.

I'll have more data in time and already have some ideas, but here's the three I had loaded up that today I finally ran over the chronograph (temps in high 60's low 70's).

(New Starline brass + CCI SP primers in a 6" KKM barrel - velocities are averages)

125gr XTP, 9.5gr Longshot @ 1.140": 1,643 AVG - 18.07 ES - 12.72 SD
140gr XTP, 8.0gr Longshot @ 1.140": 1,398 AVG - 4.20 ES - 3.60 SD
158gr XTP, 8.5gr 800x @ 1.145": 1,395 AVG - 10.13 ES - 7.07 SD

Longshot did well but my goodness, I can only imagine what 800x would do with the 125gr and 140gr...stay tuned!

Here's some more data. Recently got a KKM barrel for my G23 cut to 4.5" and wanted to try it out plus a few more from the 6" KKM.

This continues my project of running actual .357" bullets in the 357 SIG. This data is not published data, it's my own and if you want to replicate, drop by at least .5gr in your gun so that you can get a feel for what's going on.

Shot over Shooting Chrony Master Beta, velocities are averages.

New Starline brass, CCI SP primers
KKM 4.5" 357 SIG barrel in Gen4 Glock 23 using stock RSA
125gr XTP, 10.5gr 800x @ 1.140": 1,618 AVG - 37.42 ES - 26.17 SD
140gr XTP, 9.5gr 800x @ 1.140": 1,456 AVG - 30.84 ES - 21.93 SD
158gr XTP, 9.0gr 800x @ 1.140": 1,388 AVG - 8.12 ES - 5.65 SD
(Factory Speer Gold Dot 125gr averaged 1,373 fps for comparison)

Same brass setup
KKM 6" 357 SIG barrel in Gen4 Glock 35 using stock RSA
125gr XTP, 10.5gr 800x @ 1.140": 1,693 AVG - 13.02 ES - 9.21 SD

Brass was getting a little bit dinged up, some case mouth deformation and a few cases had dents from extraction, but otherwise nothing odd was encountered. Hope this is of interest to some!

Some very good numbers from the 800X
SD as usual very impressive numbers you've reached. Your 800x loads give me a great idea where to start on my long oal loads. Thanks for posting!

Warning!!! Well beyond any book maximum! This was worked up in a gun modified to use 357sig ammo loaded to 10mm length. Trying to duplicate at a shorter OAL may result in serious damage to the gun and or shooter! Use for informational purposes only!!! Be safe!

I will say that 11.0 grains of LongShot is a lot and getting in the area of too much pressure! Your barrel probably has a good chamber support...BUT!~ Your 6" barrel length is yielding the higher velocity gains with the extreme loading you are using.

This was the data derived from ammo pull-down that actually caused a casing blowout, Underwood is known for pushing the envelope...

I also load mine to full 10mm length, the 11.0g load isn't even compressed at 1.260
ss3078, the 357 SIG is not the 10mm or the 9x25 Dillon as the case capacity is much less, even though you are loading at the longer COAL length...that being said the 357Sig requires a shorter COAL. A factory 357Sig barrel will likely not accept that longer COAL, and someone trying to match the data you listed here could get themselves in to real trouble.

I understand you are loading yours for a 10mm firearm, which can accept a longer COAL in its magazine, with a 357 Sig conversion barrel. Did you have the freebore and or trueing cone adjusted to accept the longer loaded bullets of your conversion barrel?

Yes my barrel has been throated to chamber the 180s (far right) seated to max length allowable in the g20 mag. Compared to the standard length sig on the left, seating them long does indeed free up some case capacity.

You are correct that trying to duplicate this load in a gun not set up for this may lead to trouble so as always those should start low (in this case much lower) and work up.

The 125 grain load in question has the bullet seated to the base of the neck giving about as much capacity as the sig will allow. Primers we're starting to flatten but not terrible. Case head measured .426

I hear ya and glad you took the time to follow up with more details! I was just concerned that someone would no understand the setup and adjustment you have done.

BTW, do you have a 9x25 conversion? I have been playing around with the 9x25 for a while but not pushing to extremes...however I am still trying to test using different powders looking at things not shown in any books.
I do not but it is on my Christmas wishlist! I've seen all the testing and data over at 10mm-firearms and it looks very impressive. Breaking 2000fps sounds like fun and would make for some great coyote medicine.
