I got this 1979 8 3/8" barrel 29-2 for $700.00 at the gun show on Saturday. It is mint unfired with the box, paperwork and tools. I am happy. Now the question is if I should shoot it or not.

    Very nice. Congratulations.

Unless your plan is to turn and earn on this thing, I'd shoot the heck out of it.

The dash 2's are the most common of all the model 29's. With that in mind I'd shoot it.

This statement confuses me as I everything I have read states that they are among the most sought after.

They are sought after from a shooters standpoint because they are the last of the pinned and recessed model 29's. This ended with the dash 3's.

From a collectibility standpoint the -2's are very common.

The 29 no dash was made from 1957-62.
-1 was only made in 1962, very collectible.
-2 ran from 1962-82. 20 years of production.
    -3 was 1982-87

All of the dash numbers since, up to the -10 were short runs also when compared to the -2. Of them the -6 with a 5 year production run was the longest.

I'd shoot it and also be proud to own that. Really nice. And you purchased it at a good price.
