Just bought a box of CCI Mini-Mags and didn't really pay attention to the box as I thought they were all the same. Turns out this box was full of round nose bullets. I was sort of bummed at first, but then I got to thinking, maybe round nose is better... It should penetrate much further, and in really small game where penetration is not an issue, the bullet by itself is plenty big enough to put them down without expansion. This may seem like a non-issue as .22 should never be used for self defense or hunting anything larger than a possum anyway, but the reason I buy CCIs instead of bulk ammo in the first place is because I don't presume to know what I will have to use any of my guns for. I want my .22 to be as effective as it can be. I watched a couple gel tests on YouTube- the mini-mag hp had respectable expansion, and about 10" penetration from a rifle at 25 yards. The round nose mini-mag was shot from a handgun, so the tests are not totally comparable, but it mad a fair channel due to tumbling, and penetrated 13". I don't know, what do you guys think?
