Refresh my memory. The 228 was being used by the US army in some certain units. What have they replaced those units sidearm with. 229? I read in American Rifleman that they Sig had been awarded Govnt contract, it did not say what model.

    just curious.

I know that the seals use 9mm P226's as well as H&K MK23's. The Coast Guard uses P229 Daks. There are probably others.

The Sig Pro 2022 had one of the biggest sidearm contracts in US history awarded to it just a couple of years or so ago. There were rumors that it was being discontinued that were not true. It was named 2022 because that's the year that the military contract for the pistols ends. They're very good value SIG pistols.

A compact version of the P226, the P228, is in use with the US military, designated as the M11. Users include the Army CID, Air Force OSI, NCIS, and as a combat zone personal weapon by Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps flight crews.

Tad incorrect in calling it a compact P226 but the rest is true.

Small correction. NCIS upgraded to the P229 and P239 DAK in .40 some time ago.

Thanks for the catch. Just copy-pasted that info from Wiki.
