My buddy is looking for a cheap shooting 22 caliber pistol under 300.00. What gets a great rating? Smith & W A22? Or Walther P22? Any others? Any input would be great
    Thank you
    Mike

I like my P22 pretty well. Don't listen to all the negativity on the webz about this gun, mine shoots very good.

I have no expirience with the smith

Ruger MKII - everyone should own at least one of these.

A used Ruger MKII would be excellent, the S@W 22A, 622/422/2200 series or Browning buttmark is also worth considering.

    Agreed^^^

+100 on the Walther; I loved mine

You may want to consider a used Browning Buckmark. This is one fun plinker with a great trigger, and target sights. Did I mention accurate too?

I have the S&W A22 and Walther P22 Just got them both on here. The A22 is a great little gun it also has the red dot. I have to wait till tomorrow to see how P22 does. I have bin told if you use good ammo in them they are very nice little plinkers.

Does it have to be a semiauto?

For ULTRA-cheap plinking pick up a Heritage Arms 22 single action Rough Rider. I promise you'll like it! I have 2 of them.

Don't tell anybody but I also have a (cough, cough).... Phoenix Arms 22 semiauto that is a BLAST to shoot. I've yet to have a FTF or FTE from it and believe it or not for a 3" barrel it's pretty darned accurate.

Would I trust my life to these? Not only no bue H*** NO!!!!

For that I've got my Glock, my S&W J frame, My LCP, My Colt 1911....

The MKII is a very reliable, rugged, dead-nuts accurate pistol, and it has stood the test of time. If I needed a pistol to survive in the wilderness - and self-defense against two or four legged creatures was NOT an issue - this would be my choice. Great gun. Cannot recommend it enough.

What's a Ruger 22/45 pistol going for these days?

You get the same controls and grip angle as a 1911 - hard to beat that!
