I don't shoot competitively. Just at the range and wildnerness carry. I use a LWD 6" extended barrel. Other than a longer sight radius, which is certainly helpful, is there a compelling reason to pay $225 for the longer slide?

The long slide sure does look cool!

Some don't like having the barrel protrude out of the front of the pistol...looks awkward to some.

I'm guessing the added weight of the slide might help keep the front of the barrel down and help with recoil as well. Just a thought. It also has front serrations that can help aid in press checking, that's if you press check. I want one for my 20 as well!

Other than the slightly longer sight radius there isn't much advantage. It certainly looks better but that doesn't really make it better. The longslide is cutout so it weighs about the same as the standard so you won't get any extra recoil reducing mass. It may make the gun balance a little differently by shifting some weight forward a bit.

In the end you have to decide how you like your gun.
