Anyone honestly concerned? I am watching the show Conspiracy Theory now on truTV, and they are showing a bunch of underground bunkers that are being made to house the rich and powerful. I personally feel it's a load of crap, and they're going to feel like tinfoil hat wearing fools when nothing too terrible happens. I believe in God, and I know that the world is not going to come to an end in 2012. I think it'll be just like Y2K where people freak out for nothing. Thoughts?

To be honest, anyone who believes that the world will come to an end in 2012 needs to get their head's examined. Sorry if that applies to anyone on this forum.

I think Brock is a one term president, what if in 2012 a certain someone arranges for something REAL bad to happen to America, then declares Marshall Law and stays in charge:alex:

I wouldnt doubt it with the level of spending and state of politics these days.

We're doomed if it doesnt stop quick.

It seems to me that the people most afraid are the atheists. They don't believe in an afterlife so they're desperate to hold onto this life as long as possible. Spending big bucks to live in an underground bunker? What kinda life would that be? I am sure there will be a few earthquakes and natural disasters, but it's hilarious that some people really think that the world will just blow up or something lol.

If the world is coming to the end, how would a bunker help? :dunno:

Give me a break. The Mayans couldn't see the Spanish coming - how could they see the end of the world hundreds of years after that? They should have just gone ahead and ended their calender in 14 or 15-something.

The one they just showed was in an old missile silo that was like ~186 feet under ground. Apparently the world will burn up, but they will be ok. They plan to basically make it like a condo underground, complete with swimming pools, workout rooms, the ability to grow their own food and to make their own power. Sounds nutty, but there is an enormous demand for it according to several sources.

When I was growing up Bomb Shelters were all the rage because nuclear
war with Russia was imminent at any time. You could buy a ready made
concrete bomb shelter through the mail. All you had to do was bury it
    in your backyard.

Children (like me) were taught to get under our desks during a nuclear attack.
The basement of every public building was a federal bomb shelter complete
with gas masks, food and water.

Very few people remember those days.

There's always somebody preaching the end of the world for some reason.

If the world does end in 2012, hopefully I'll go out with an empty bottle of
    Jack Daniels by my side.

I think 2012 will be a SHTF situation.

I don't think the world is going to end, but I DO think that a lot of not so bright people will use it as an excuse to loot and pillage.

I will be on guard with plenty of ammo for all the nutjobs I expect to cause trouble.

Yes, I can see rioting, looting, and general chaos.

No, I don't think it will be from any kind of (un)natural disaster or metaphysical catastrophe.

That all depends on who the Republicans field next election. If Palin is the best we got, God help us. Some potentials should be coming out by now.

As to the OP's question: Not at all concerned. If something catastrophic happens, then it happens. I've been meaning to put together a BOB but that's just b/c of local problems (hurricanes and blizzards and so forth). Usually you can count on failure of local EMS and power grids in short term emergencies in this area. If something really big (national or global) happens, there's no way to really adequately prepare.

BTW, wasn't something supposed to happen 2/11 this year? I remember seeing a thread title to that effect a few weeks ago in religious issues.

Anybody here remember the Y2K boogity-boogity? Aircraft were going to fall from the sky, the power grid was going down, life as we know it was going to be over.

I'm still pissed. I really thought that around February 2000 I'd be able to pick up a lightly used generator real cheap. No dice.:embarassed:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but nobody is actually taking this Mayan calender stuff seriously, right? It was my impression that it is just mythology that makes a good fairy tale and Hollywood movie.

I just spit water on my monitor.

Atheists don't believe in God, typically for scientific reasons... you think they give a hoot about the Mayan calendar?
