What are they going to do about existing CVPI contracts through 2012? Cancel them?

We (Baltimore City MD)bought somebody else's Taurus order back in the 90's They were not "PI" or even heavy service, but they were universally hated.

I think they would sell the last 2011's to you for 2012.

    Not a Cop...

But a lot of car rags are complaining that in spite of the Taurus being a large vehicle, that it's still relatively cramped. Especially as far as head-room goes.

Plus, it's front-wheel drive (I doubt any dept would spring for the AWD option?). But, a lot of cruisers are FWD these days...

The old Taurus and this one have zero in common. They'll be a whole new set of reasons to hate the new one.

Our admin has already started getting Tauri. Chief and DC have off colored unmarkeds. The only way patrol won't have a fit over this is if we get the TT/AWD units.

    We'll see!

Is the handling and acceleration better with the new Taurus' because with older ones both suck.

We'll definitely have to get new computer mounts. Which is a good thing, ours are the devil.

Front wheel drive sucks in a police vehicle. Every dept that jumped on the Impala bandwagon a few years ago soon learned their mistake. They dumped them all and went back to CV's. Dodge should be very happy with Ford right about now.

Can't address the PI issues, but I can say the new Taurus and the old Taurus have almost nothing in common except the name. I've been driving the new one for a couple of days, I like it for a personal vehicle. For a cruiser? Have to see how they work that out.

I will have to agree , our department had 2 Chevy Impala's and both sucked, we went back to Crown Vics and now gonna try Dodge Charger's, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol is only buying Charger's and they have done them well so far.

We've been saddled with Impalas for some time now as I mentioned in the other thread. Granted with a 900+ officer department institution inertia is a strong power so a change would have been unlikely anyway, but truth be told the last generation Impalas really haven't been that bad for us. With the exception of our wagons and a handful of vics they are all we run. They would not be my first choice, but I can't say that they have been a BAD choice either. In a northeastern city the faults of FWD are counterbalanced by road conditions 6 months of the year quite a bit.

Doesn't matter what Ford comes out with because we havent been able to afford new cars for the past 2 years and it isn't getting better anytime soon.

If Ford goes this route I think they will loose the majority of their police business
