Just bought a 19x a few weeks ago and I am really enjoying this gun. The only upgrade I want to make is the finish. I've already rubbed the npvd finish down to bare metal in a couple of spots. This doesn't bother me except for the fact it could rust. I'm trying to decide between black nitride and robar np3. Does anyone know which one is the better finish? Are they better than npvd?

I had an Np3'd Glock, it scratched fairly easy. It should be super rust resistant, but not scratch or wear proof.

The protection layer should be under the finish.

You shouldn't rub it so vigorously, though. :kidding:

I was like...."say it ain't so".... oh well. I might just carry for a year and see how many scratches I can rack up.

We had the slide on our G21 done in NP3 at Robar a couple of years ago. The Robar people do really nice work, we think. The NP3 finish is holding up very well so far, but the G21 has not been used extensively since the refinish.

    We trudge on.

That's odd. Mine has been in and put of kydex holster countless times since March and is perfect like the day I bought it. Toughest finish I've seen on a Glock since the 90s

The external visible finish on any Glock is purely cosmetic. Corrosion resistance is provided by the non-visible nitrocarburized surface treatment of the steel under the finish. That stays until the owner starts milling even more slide serrations and magic Voodoo and Punisher Skull emblems into it.

I will add a pic later. It got rubbed up against something while I was moving furniture. I've have no problem with holsters.

Ah, that might do it. I've avoided that with my 19x so far, but with all my carry guns it's just a matter of time.

Thanks good to know. I might just keep the finish then.

I would also like to see pics.

    +1

My 19X has seen several hundred kydex holster presentations (Double Alpha PDR PRO-II) and could still pass as new.

I don't understand how the finish can be worn down, hundreds of draws on my part from a Kydex holster with no wear whatsoever

Bumped it up against wood while moving furniture. I'm not putting this finish down. Just looking for other options if I do decide to have it refinished.

The turdish brown is not the only protection from rust...; the metal is impregnated with protection....

Enjoy the wear, ignore it *unless* it starts to rust...

(Spend that money on more ammo)
