So my best friend is looking to get his first 1911. He wants to get a .45 and spend under $700. Help please.

I agree with Bac's post. The STI and DE1911 pretty much put everything else in the range to shame. The RIA is a good bang for the buck though, but you get more with the other two

Full size, nightstand duty. I told him to look at used, but he wants no part of it... I have a RO and am going to let him shoot it, but he thinks that the adjustable sights are a waste. Personally for nightstand use (in my opinion) a RIA would suffice. Is that correct?

He did say they all have guns in the price range...but didn't say how much it will take to make them run reliably...or keep them together...
