I know Desert Eagles catch a lot of trash talking because of the "gangsta" reputation of the fullsize but honestly I have a micro, full size .44, and a Jericho .45 and Ive never had issues with any of them. Am I crazy to think that for a low range 1911 this gun should be fairly decent?

I called Magnum Research yesterday and asked about availability date and it will be hitting shops late Feb. to early March. $800 msrp so Im guessing they will be in the high 600 range to start.

Am I the only one with their interest peaked?

I think you are the only one.

I have an older Des.Eagle in 44mag. I like it. I would like to have a longer barrel in 44mag, and I would like to have a 357mag conversion, but I have no desire for a Des.Eagle 1911

Hey, the more 1911s the merrier.

Not sure I want one though. We'll see.

I'm more interested in the rumors of Ruger and Remington 1911s.

If it's built as solid and reliable as the rest of MR's guns it should be a welcome addition to the 1911 fold. That being said I will most likely not be interested. I think if I get any more 1911's they will be semi-custom only.

It looks like a cookie cutter run of the mill slicked up bling bling 1911 to me, just like every one else makes. I can't say that I care for the looks of it, but everybody else is building one so why not? I personally prefer the smooth sleeper look of the Dan Wesson Valor. Now that's a 1911! I will have one......someday.

This gun is built by BUL to Charles Daly specs. Charles Daly did the marketing research, put some extended effort and money in to come out with specs. BUL then turned around and decided to import this gun through Magnum Research. This and the asinine add by MR that says "It took nearly a hundred years for a 1911 to earn the name Desert Eagle" is enough for me to know my dollars are going elsewhere.

While I will not buy it I don't mind it being on the market- might give a gentle push to other players to reassess their pricing.

The pricing is exactly what has my interest. Im sure the quality level will be there, but Magnum Research typically is the towards the higher end of pricing for mass production guns and this one seems low-mid level pricing. Im not big on the name being so large on the side but time will tell how the product is received. I do agree that the ad is ridiculous, especially since I work in Marketing and Advertising. However, with the massive amount of internet press this ad is getting maybe thats exactly the direction they wanted to go. The "cop killer", bullet proof vest busting, hole the size of a mack truck .50AE sure didnt become what it has without some controversy.

The "Custom Features at a Basic Price" strategy is a joke. Its been used over and over. There is no cheating in the 1911 world. You get exactly what you pay for. Believe me, I'm sure it will be a nice entry level model and I love my inexpensive models. Most work great. However, the word "custom" has no business being in the description of 1911s like this.

Taurus did the same thing and their 1911 is a train wreck.

The features they list aren't "custom", they're just the basic enhancements of a modern enhanced 1911.

That's what I was thinking. I was pissed when they marketed the Baby Eagle as the "Desert Eagle 9mm." They're riding that name too hard.

Yeah, like the 1911 needs to "earn" anything at this point.

That is ridiculous and will surely drive people away from buying it.

More 1911s on the market = better in my book. They will be successful, when was the last a 1911 was brought to market by a solid company that was not successful? I do agree that a Ruger or Remington 1911 is more interesting, Remington especially.

I was almost interested until I saw the picture. Front cocking serrations and controls in a different finish than the frame. The white grip safety on a black frame is particularly tasteful. Oh, I almost forgot the 1/2" high lettering on the slide. I can't quite make it out in the picture, does that say "Eat as Joe's"?

Did Sig fire whatshisname, the Kimber guy? Looks like MR picked him up.

I guess it is supposed to be a Taurus killer.
