What brand are you guys carrying? 2 or 4?
I'm getting geared up to carry a 1911 in april or may.
While I love shooting the 1911, for duty you can get for less money more practical guns.
So finding someone on regular patrol with a 1911 is rather rare.
To get to your question, I would use the 2 mag, since on my belt there is hardly space for anything more!
Quad by Don Hume IIRC. I've beeen considering a open top quad by A E Nelson so I can put a couple of 10 rounders in the front and 7s or 8s in the back.
A.E. Nelson also makes one that holds three. Although the one on their web site has flaps, they will make it without them.
When we were allowed 1911's, we carried 4 mags in the Bianchi mag pouch for the large Glock mags like the .45 or 10mm. Two 1911 mags fit in each. We did not find any problems.
I'm in the same boat as ya and I was thinking about picking up this Safariland quad mag holder.
I place 2 in a hoffner pasadena pouch in front, and 2 more in a single Glock 21 pouch behind my radio. keeps all of the weight of the 4 spare mags away from the front of the belt and makes the first 2 reloads much, much faster.
Learn something every day! I've been looking for an upgrade from two to four!!THANS!!
I carry 4 Kimber ProTac Mags for my Kimber TLE II in a Gould & Goodrich quad mag pouch.
A.E. Nelson makes some nice ones, vertical or horizontal. I used to carry in a horizontal quad-pouch that worked just great. They will do custom work, so if you want it to fit 10-rounders, they'll do it. With the horizontal model, I could fit 8-round Power-Mags in the center two slots, and 10-rounders in the top and bottom slots, still getting the flap snapped back into place.
I have a quad from Hoffners and one from covered gun.
