I'm looking for my first handgun. I've been a hunter for the past 22 years and I've only owned shotguns and rifles (plenty of them.) I've shot about 9 handguns in the past couple months. Glock 17,34, 19, H&K .45acp. Ruger P95, GP100, Taurus 85 revolver and Rossi .357 revolver. I have shot only 1 1911, a buddy of mine let me shoot 15 rounds through is .45. I honestly can't remember the brand. Except for the added recoil and manual safety of the 1911 .45acp, I really didn't notice too much difference in the above mentioned guns. Would any of you recommend a 1911 for a first handgun? I've heard so much about the inherent accuracy and customization of 1911's. Yet, I want something reliable. I'm kind of leaning towards the 9mm caliber because I don't want to reload at this point. Would you recommend the 1911 in 9mm, or .45ACP? What's your opinion of 1911's overall for someone new to handguns?
