This is a river I used to guide on, but a different company. 150 of 200 are missing. Waters are extremely high, could use some prayers for boaters and rescuers.

    SWIFT WATER RESCUE
    Fire 29 40 35 NC 42 Water Rescue Personnel
Respond to Lehighton just under the
Route 873 Bridge in Washington Twsp.
Work your way north on the river bed.
Approximately 200 people went rafting from Jim Thrope, only 50 are accounted for.
    1900 Hrs LC1

Emergency crews are on the scene of a water rescue that began at the McCall bridge in Lehighton and crews are now at the Route 873 bridge. According to scanner reports, police said an empty raft was spotted at the 895 bridge in Bowmanstown.

I saw this as well. Was the company really that dumb to send people out on that river when we’ve had all this rain? Under no circumstances was this a good idea.

I’m up north now. We had a train derail and spill >4,000 gallons of diesel fuel into the Delaware, bridges wash out, houses floating, roads ruined in northern Wayne county.

The Lehigh starts up here, it’s gotta be crazy down there.

Went down the Gauley River in WV a few times when they were letting water out of the dam.

    Holy Crap!

In the years I was there; they averaged killing someone every other year.

New Hope here....... Walk the mutt between the Delaware and the canal every other day.

I'm astounded that anyone, let alone a professional rafting company would be taking folks out on the water in these conditions.

    Nothing short of criminal negligence.

The max reported on the Upper Gauley was 12,000+ cfs. I went down at 5,000+ and it was a *****.

Looks like it worked out ok, I think everyone was accounted for. They said the rafters got out at several points, and it was difficult to tell who was where. They were mostly kids. This should have never happened.

Heading into the area tomorrow, had a few homeowners I have talked to said they had 3' of water in their homes. Sounds like a pretty serious storm.

I’m up north and was at a site where the water pushed a house off it’s foundation and a shed against another house when the creek jumped the bank. Susquehanna county got it worse. The Susquehanna river is wicked high right now as well.

When I was a little kid we lived outside Benton PA. We went through Hurricane Agnes and unbelievable rains. Then dams were opened in NY and other points generally north and the flooding got worse.

The Susquehanna wreaked havoc on towns like Shickshinny (love that name).

    That is a beautiful area.
