Hi all looking into a 12ga and was wanting some input on whats good. I'm looking into a Benelli supernova or a Mossberg 500 or 590 any other suggestions would be great. This gun would be for general use, if possiable trap, HD, maybe hunting, killing zombies, etc. Thanks

nothing wrong with those choices but Ive always had a remington 870 and always will.

ease of maint, ease of swapping out barrels and guts with other models, upgrades like changing mag capacity, ect

I do however like the benellis more than mossbergs. They make great shotguns too.Their nova line is priced right too.

    just my 2 cents.

870 for me also. Prefer the control locations and know them inside-out.

I own both the 870 and 500, and I have shot a friends Benelli Nova.

All 3 are good economic pump action shotguns. With a couple of barrels they can do anything from birds, to bears, to home defense and zombies.

The only real difference between the 3 is the placement of the controls with the Mossberg being most friendly to left handed shooters but least friendly to pistol grips.

I got a 500 and an 870. Both have been good guns, but the forearm on the 500 rattles which I dislike when I use it for hunting. I'd have to pick an 870 as my first choice to own. A lot of aftermarket accessories available for it also.

I am an 870 man also.
I have a Mossberg, but 870's are so reliable and there are
so many more aftermarket parts and different ways to
    customize them to your likes.

Get an 870 Express HD 7 shot for defense and zombies.

Then buy an extra barrel for hunting or trap along with
a new 5 shot magazine spring and cap.
Unscrew the 2 shot extension, install 3 shot plug and new
spring, screw on new cap, good to go hunting or skeet, trap.

    Or,
If you wanted one of the nicer hunting or skeet 870's.
Then just buy an aftermarket 18" or 20" police barrels,
2 or 3 shot extension, new spring and follower, then
you could have a nice hunting shotgun and if the SHTF
with about 5 mins. work you could be in the 7 or 8 shot
    HD mode.

Having owned both the Moss 500 and Rem 870, I can say both are an efficient means of sending a shot shell to its intended target (properly aimed, of course.......!)
The 870 appears to be of what I term "tighter" construction; as others have mentioned, it seems lees prone to various "shakes" and "rattles" one is apt to find with the 500....
Mind you....I'm not finding fault with the 500; given that the price of a stock 500A can be (and often IS.....) a couple hundred $$ less that an 870, the Mossbergs have found their way into many a home as a HD weapon of choice....
End of the day....I'd trust either one to defend myself and loved ones....
Both will be, as Bill Jordan said:"......good to ride the range with....."

I have a Mossberg and a Remington. Both are equally good life saving tools. Its just a matter of preference. I like the slide release position better on my Mossberg but I like the over all fit and finish and build quality of my Remington. Shotguns are sophisticated, they are simple and devastating. Lasers, lights, grips and rails are not needed. Nice, but not needed. Great tool for the 7 yard/21 foot mini-war in your house.

Not to derail this thread....but how much less wobbly are the 870 forends? My mossy feels even more wobbly after some magnum buckshot and the Magpul AFG on my railed forend (never used a vfg)

I had three Mossbergs. Two of them were jamming, having light strikes and spitting out extractors. I think I am done with Mossbergs.

Had a Benelli. No problem with it until I accidentally sold it to my neighbor.

Looking for good Winchester Defender now.

Saiga is the best shotgun for killing zombies. I have one and it never jammed once.

Winchester Defender shoots the aguila mini shells without jamming. I really like it best of the 'good' shotguns. If you wind up with a mossberg, get the 590A1, the milspec version.

I saw a marine model Defender for sale lately on some gun board.. ;)

    Your Right!!!

The Winchester 1300 is a really good shotgun.

I bought one at Walmart about 20 years ago for $200 dollars and hate myself for getting rid of it.
