I have not loaded 10mm in a while. I started putting some 200 XTP loads together over the weekend. I ended up using my old stand by 10mm powder again, Blue Dot. To me Blue Dot felt like it was a little softer shooting than AA#9 with top end Book Loads.

Probably getting a bit more vel with AA#9. I still like BD in the 10mm, one of the only reasons I still have it on my shelf. The more I shoot AA#9 though the more I like it for the accuracy. Not sure what I am doing wrong with 800X, but I never have gotten great accuracy with it & the weighing every charge gets old quick.

100% agree point by point. Blue Dot has been great for the medium warm ammo for all bullet weights. Tons of load data, great for the new 10mm loader. It has big swings on velocities since it doesn't meter superbly, but the velocity swings don't seem to show up on paper at handgun distances. It burns REALLY clean when loaded warm. Filthy dirty at moderate loads. Blast and flash! Oh my! You know it when you're shooting Blue Dot!

A9 has been tops for groups at max velocities. My go-to for top end 10mm. A 200 gr WFN at 1250 fps is a firm handshake. And it will connect with small objects at longer distances, even from a stock Glock barrel.

My experience with 800-x was like yours except that I had some spooky pressure symptoms on top of it. I happen to think the Hornady 180 gr data is suspect, FWIW. I burned up my supply, painstakingly dropping-and-trickling, and never looked back. In fact, I think I sold the last can or two that I had. The one place that I did like 800-X was for 135 grain blasters. If you like muzzle energy, then 800-X and 135 gr 10mm bullets is the ticket!

While I don't dislike 800X, I was never able to get anywhere near what some are loading without brass shear.

Maybe it's the tight chamber, but I found my stopping point well south of other's max loads.

Agree. I Think most that have worked high pressure 800x loads are just getting lucky. I have gotten the vel but not the accuracy I want. Since no one has put out pressure data I am aware of, I'll not buy more, just wasting my $$$.

After almost a year off I'll be testing with my Pressure Trace this spring / summer, should be interesting where 800X loads end up.

I built a platform that uses interchangeable barrels. The first two, a G20 LW with the chamber turned down & and an AR, provided low, but consistent, readings.

I purchased a 4140 Green Mountain .40 blank a while back, just need to have it chambered.

The 4140 barrel should provide more realistic numbers vs. the SS LW & Kaw 4150 barrels.

Good stuff. I was thinking custom tc bbl in 10, have it made as a 5". Keep me posted.

I carry Sig VCrown in my G29 and want to create a comparable reload using BlueDot (because I can buy it at my local Cabelas and skip hazmat fees).

Anyone have any load data for how many grains of Blue Dot I should use behind a 180gr Hornady bullet to get it to 1250fps using Sig VCrown test standards (6" barrel iirc)?

I am using Winchester Large Pistol Primers. I am too much of a Newb to know if that matters...

Another advantage to AA9 is that it is a flash suppressed powder. 800x seems to be a popular powder among those who like to load beyond published maximum pressures. This is likely because it's not a very slow burning powder and will produce excessive pressures when loading beyond max.

I like Power Pistol and Longshot. I just got some BE-86 since it has flash suppressant. I usually end up loading near book max loads but nothing beyond. I don’t want to shoot a lighter load in a 10mm nor do I think it is necessary to shoot nuclear loads.

This thread reminds me that I need to do some more load development for my woods carry loads soon; it's about time to get back in the woods and the bears are about ready to come out.

I bought a can of Blue Dot and found it had unnecessarily harsh recoil.

I did a bunch of load development for shooting GSSF matches so I was going for soft shooting and accurate and the Win 231 worked well for that. As does Unique and Titegroup.

Will have to take notes from this thread to see how to make a 190gr hard cast bullet go fast and be accurate.

I see a lot of info on 155 grain bullets so I'm thinking using it for 150 grainers shouldn't be a problem? Looks like 12.0 of BD is Max so I'll start at 11.0 or a little more.
11.0 should be a fine starting point. Hopefully the 150 gr Noslers work better for you than they did for me. They were undersized in the couple of 250 count boxes that I've used. Sized .399" or a hair under. My G20 doesn't shoot undersized bullets well at all. 155 gr XTPs are .400" on the nose so MUCH more accurate in my G20.

Regarding the earlier post about Unique... I've found Unique to be a fine powder for loading "FBI Load" or "10mm Light" ammo. 180 @ 950ish.

Some people don't like to run anything but hot ammo in 10mm. Nothing wrong with that. I like my G20 so much that I run all types of ammo. The gun is so dang versatile. Mild to wild.
