I am trying to figure out what I should be carrying. How much of a difference is the recoil of the 10mm compared to the 40 or 45? I've shot a g23 and a g21 but have never ventured into the realm of 10mm. I have shot a friend's judge with a .410 shotgun shell and thought it was a blast, no pun intended. What gun do you find the easiest to handle/control? Is the 10mm a push or a snap?

I've shot .40 and 10mm a little, and .45 ACP a lot. I find the 10mm about like .357 Mag - not bad, but more difficult to shoot quickly than .45 or 9mm. For quick shots on target, I find the .45 much better - smoother and easier to control, but still delivers a highly effective round.

I find them all to be easily controlled. Not like a hot .357 mag or .44 mag.
They feel different to me but none are harsh in my opinion.
:agree: My thoughts exactly. The "felt" recoil is a little different. None of them are unmanageable IMO. Carry what you most comfortable with.

I own and shoot two calibers of Glocks: .45ACP and 10mm (G21SF and G29). I have shot .40S&W pretty extensively, in everything from Glocks to Jerichos. I think .45ACP is the softest, then .40S&W, then .45ACP+P, then 10mm. However, NONE of them are hard to control at all. The recoil of 10mm is more fun than anything. In fact, I really don't think the recoil is that much worse, but the BLAST makes it seem that way. If you shoot .45ACP then 10mm side by side, you will hear pops, then a BOOM! Also, 10mm recoil is only stout with the serious loads. If you were shooting some Winchester Silvertips, they won't feel any worse than .40S&W, even though they are more powerful. The heavy slides of the 10mm guns, combined with the fat grips really absorbs a lot of recoil. The only time 10mm recoil will be REALLY stout is if you're shooting a G29 with loads making over 700ft-lbs of energy, with a heavy recoil spring.

Shoot the 10mm…. in a G20 SF. Change the barrel to a supported KKM, new sights; what ever you like, new Wolff spring set so you can shoot full house loads... The spring change to 22 or 24 lbs helps a lot in the recoil area, recoil buffer… your on your way…..Mine is very comfortable and controllable set up this way; and is a dream to shoot. :perfect10:
