$10,000 Gun Won't Shoot Unless Near an Ugly Watch
    [IMG]

The watch this guy's wearing was made by Armatix, the same company who designed his high-tech gun. Poor fellow can't ditch the ugly accessory though, because the $10,000 weapon won't fire without it.

Basically the gun is disarmed and a red LED lights up unless the corresponding watch is close enough to send a wireless signal. While I really don't see a high demand for it, Armatix's .22cal weapon will be shipping next month for 7,000 euro, which is just under 10k in Washingtons. The watch is probably included. Kind of a...uhh...neat idea, I guess? Maybe handy for cops or something, once they cost a whole, whole, lot less than $10,000, to keep an officer from being shot with his own weapon.

Looks pretty goofy and sci-fi right now, but it's an interesting idea, at least.

I wonder what kind of batteries it takes? Or maybe you charge it at night next to your cell phone.

It's a GSG handgun that is no longer produced and the time display is just a sticker on the wrist device!

I guess you would need a degree in electrical engineering to strip and clean it. That is just what a gun needs, electrical crap to fail rendering it useless.

and the fact that right handed people tend to wear their watches on their left hands and left handed people on their right hands never came to be a consideration?

Yes and no.....talk to a few cops, ask them how many watches they've had to replace because it was ripped off during a fight....

That's what I was thinking. If the distance between the gun and watch could allow one to wear the watch on their 'weak' hand, it would also allow someone to take the gun from the owner and still fire it while standing next to them. In other words, this won't stop someone from being shot by his own gun. But, I'm guessing it's "for the children."

That watch would be a dead give away for carrying, I mean really it would be equal to open carrying. Think of the EMP troubles or lawsuits from gun failures in a self defense situation.

EMP troubles? Really? Do you test nuclear weapons for a living?
